10 YEARS AGO (2000)
Seton Catholic's Jason Jabaut finishes second in the Jumbo Elliott High School Mile at the Millrose Games in New York City. His time of 4:18.82 is six-tenths of a second off the winning time.

Chazy's Matt Devins sets the Section VII record for career 3-pointers with his 172nd, breaking the old mark of 171 held by Beekmantown's Nick Fortunatus.

Megan Nemier scores 19 points as unbeaten Chateaugay wraps up the NAC East title with a 63-56 win over Madrid-Waddington.

Miranda Perras comes up with 8 steals and Ashley Walter, 7, as NCCS gets 23 steals in a 52-27 win over Seton Catholic in a battle of CVAC division leaders.

20 YEARS AGO (1990)
Matt Heuston and Dan DeSnyder lead the PHS boys to a first-place finish in alpine skiing competition at the Lake Placid Winter Carnival.

Beekmantown's Guy Peryea picks up his 100th career victory at the Suburban Council wrestling tournament.

Joel St. Mary clears 6 feet, 2¼ inches to break Jody Johnson's 8-year-old Malone school record for the high jump of 6-2.



25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Amy Heustis scores 19 points and Bridget MacDonald, 13, as Ticonderoga knocks off previously unbeaten Saranac 57-45. Jenny Strack and Katie Ryan each score 18 for the Chiefs.

Lake Placid's Tracey Damigella, 16, claims the silver medal in the Junior Ladies Division at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Jill Trenary takes the gold.

Dennis LaBarge's 3-point play with 3 seconds left in overtime gives NAC a 63-61 win over NCCS. LaBarge finishes with 27 as the Bobcats battle back from a 13-point deficit. Andy Guay nets 21 for the Cougars.

30 YEARS AGO (1980)
Jeff Hallberg and Jeff Whittemore each score 17 as Elizabethtown-Lewis beats Crown Point 60-46 in a playoff for the MVAC championship. Don Schryer scores 18 for the Panthers and Kirk Charlton, 14.

Robbie Spencer, Alan Goldman, Jon Hartnett, Scott Doran and Jon Vititow lead Plattsburgh High past defending champion AuSable Valley to the Section VII swimming championship. Peru's Rich Dilzer sets 2 sectional records in the meet.

Gary Kent makes 31 saves and Jim Bushey scores twice as Northern Adirondack nips Malone 4-2.

Bob Hickey pilots the NCISS 4-man team to victory in the U.S. Olympic bobsled trials. Willie Davenport, Jeff Gadley and Jeff Jordan round out the team.

Jeff Rasco, Mike Chagnon, Todd Rock and Joe Perry pick up wins as Saranac snaps Peru's winning streak in wrestling at 63 with a 29-16 victory.

Mary Stanley scores 26 points as Crown Point beats Willsboro 55-48 to complete a 12-0 season in MVAC play.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)
Baseball's Brooks Robinson and Sparky Lyle join football's Joe Morrison and Bill Mathis at the Ticonderoga Knights of Columbus Sports Night, before a crowd of 550.

Moriah overcomes Johnny Hart's 29-point game to wrap up the Class A title with an 85-61 win over St. John's. Al Beebe leads the Vikings with 22.

Larry Marcotte scores 23 points to lead Saranac to an 81-77 win over AuSable Valley. Bob Meconi nets 26 in a losing cause.

St. John's tops Beekmantown 112-85 despite Mike St. Louis's 40 points.

50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Denny Ward scores 13 points and Carl King, 12, as OLVA beats St. Mary's of Ogdensburg 46-40 to snap an 18-game winning streak.

Rick Florin grabs 36 rebounds to break his own school record as Plattsburgh State routs New Paltz 90-57. Jack Potter scores 21 for the Cards.

Jack Glasgow sinks 2 free throws and Gary Covey adds a lay-up, all in the final minute, to give Beekmantown a 52-47 win over MAI.

Bill LaPlante scores 19 points as Saranac beats Champlain 65-59. Ron Frenyea nets 26 in a losing cause.

60 YEARS AGO (1950)
Johnny Podres scores 14 and Sherm Chappell, 10, to lead Mineville past St. John's 45-38, despite Urgil Votraw's 22-point effort.

Jerry Tavernier scores the game-winner as Dannemora edges Altona 37-35.

Jules Trahan nets 16 points as Rouses Point tops Morrisonville 52-13.

Rod Willette scores 19 points as Champlain rallies past Ellenburg 53-46. Bob Smith scores 16 and Harley Hobbs, 14, for Ellenburg.

Lake Placid fire chief Stan Benham pilots a U.S. four-man bobsled team to a second straight world championship, at Cortina-D'Ampezzo, Italy. Pat Martin of Massena, Jim Atkinson of Rome and Lake Placid's Bill D'Amico round out the team.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)
Saranac Lake native Leith Dickie, 17, returns to Lake Placid as the goaltender for the Montreal Royals in a weekend hockey series with McGill.

Rob Spear scores 23 points to lead Westport to a 35-23 win over Plattsburgh High.

Dean Anson of Lake Placid wins the New York State Slalom championships at Phoenicia.
