Keyser, Buehler earn scholar-athlete award
ALBANY — Lindsey Keyser, of the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team, and Kara Buehler, of the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team, have earned 2010-11 Chancellor Scholar-Athlete Awards for their respective sports.
The award, which recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement, is given annually in each sport to a First or Second Team All-Conference honoree with the highest grade-point average. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least three semesters completed and have the highest grade-point average of at least 3.3 or better.
A midfielder from Keeseville, Keyser was the only SUNY Athletic Conference representative on the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Women's NCAA Division III All-America Team, garnering third-team honors. She also earned first-team All-SUNYAC accolades and a spot on the NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-East Region first team.
Keyser registered 17 points on seven goals and three assists in her junior campaign, starting in each of the team's 20 games. She has been named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team three times and to the Commissioner's List twice.
Buehler, a senior out of Skaneateles, was named a 2011 American Hockey Coaches Association Division III Women's Reebok Hockey All-American, earning first-team honors.
She was also named to the All-ECAC West First team after finishing fourth in team scoring, setting career high with seven goals and 22 points.
Buehler helped anchor a defense that allowed just 32 goals — second lowest in the nation, on a team which advanced to the ECAC West Championship game for the 10th-straight year.
Buehler was also named to the Academic All-ECAC West and All-SUNYAC teams in 2009.
Keyser and Buehler are two of 74 SUNY scholar-athletes to receive honors this year. Geneseo led the conference with five award-winners, while Plattsburgh followed with two and Cortland, Fredonia and New Paltz each had one honoree.
