CHAZY — Chazy Youth Hockey will hold its monthly meeting this Thursday, Dec. 13 at Scotts’ Rink beginning at
7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Paul Smith’s hosts Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race
PAUL SMITHS — The 19th annual Jingle Bell Snowshoe 5K and 10K Races were held at Paul Smith’s College on Saturday. For the second year in a row, however, the event was held as a trail run due to lack of snow. There were 24 participants.
Saranac’s Matt Medeiros paced the men over the 10K with a 40:10. Rounding out the top five were Paul Smith’s College’s Eric Kowalik in 42:16, Oswego’s Ben Harper in 42:46, Paul Smith’s College’s Zach Davidson in 44:03 and Paul Smith’s College’s Tim Grossman in 44:50.
Plattsburgh’s Alexa Cosgro led the women with a time of 55:03, followed by Paul Smith’s College’s Lea Anthony in 57:43.
In the 5K, Mexico’s Eric Hulbert finished first for the men in 19:36, followed by Paul Smith’s College’s Louis Ferrone in 20:58 and Paul Smith’s College’s Josh Buchanan in third with a 22:07.
Lake Placid’s Marily Zygo won the women’s 5K in 28:10.
Sixty-eight year old Jim Graupner came to the event from Lake Erno, Minnesota, and finished the 10K in 48:21.
Olympian Peter Frenette collecting donations
SARANAC LAKE — Three-time national ski jumper Peter Frenette held a fundraiser in Saranac Lake prior to his departure for the World Cup Circuit in Europe. Frenette also represented the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympics. To cover travel expenses, equipment and other necessities, Frenette relies on outside funding. At the fundraiser, Frenette received a check from Malone-based law firm Fischer, Bessette, Muldowney & Hunter, LLP. The firm entered into a multi-year sponsorship with Frenette. Plattsburgh State soccer players receive All-Region
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Matt Hamilton and Nick Pourakis of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team were named to the Division III All-East Region, as chosen by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Keeseville-native Hamilton also received All-American and All-SUNYAC honors after scoring 10 goals with one assist for the 17-3-1 Cardinals. Hamilton led the team with four game-winning goals as the Cardinals won the regular-season championship. He scored the game-winner to give Plattsburgh State the win against Brockport in the regular-season finale. Hamilton also registered a goal in the conference semifinals against Cortland.
Senior Pourakis played in all 21 games this season as a defender. He picked up Second Team All-SUNYAC honors after anchoring a Cardinal defense that held opponents to only 20 goals in 21 games. Pourakis also became the first Cardinal to win the Fred Holloway Award as given by the conference.
