Mike Kavanaugh and Vinnie Esola score late goals to give Northern Adirondack a 4-3 victory over Saranac Lake, ruining the Redskins' debut in CVAC boys' soccer. Pat Dillon scores twice for Saranac Lake and Jason Hounsell, once.
Dawn Malone gets all 3 goals in Crown Point's shutout victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis in girls' soccer.

Former PHS standout Mike Beauvais, a 1958 graduate of Syracuse University, is hired at Peru as an assistant coach and teacher.
A crowd of 13,000 watches Charlie Trombley edge Buck Holliday to win the 35-lap William McMartin Challenge for the Northeastern New York Championship at Airborne Speedway. Trombley earns $500 of a record $2,200 purse. Holliday finishes on three wheels and an axle. Bob Bruno wins accident-marred limited feature.
Paul Salerno pitches a 4-hitter and gets 2 hits as Port Henry whips Mineville 13-4 to assure itself of at least a tie for the Mountain & Valley League baseball championship. Gilbo chips in with 3 hits while Brace adds a pair. Hargett, Arthur, Corbo and Podres get hits for Mineville.

Bob Parker belts a home run and Harry Carpenter comes through with a clutch RBI single as McMartin Motors defeats Diamond Match 5-3 to wrap up the second-half title in the City Softball League.
Joe Reed and Paul Clukey win the final motorcycle races of the season at Moffitt Park Speedway.
Roy Young strikes out 10 batters and Bob Bruno goes 4-for-5 as the Peru American Legion outlasts AuSable Forks 13-9 in baseball.
