Matt Magee scores to lift Beekmantown to its first win ever in boys' soccer, 4-2 over AuSable Valley.
Chad Welch and Mike Hartigan each score twice and Chad Van Hoesen comes up with 18 saves as Northeastern Clinton stuns defending CVAC champ Northern Adirondack 5-0.
Jerry Kowalowski scores all 3 goals in Clinton Community College's 3-1 win over Canton ATC.
Peru eighth-grader Sara Facteau and AuSable Valley junior Nick Fitzsimmons set course records on opening day in CVAC cross country.

Brian Riley, a 1983 Brown University graduate and son of legendary coach Jack Riley, is named assistant to Steve Hoar for Plattsburgh State hockey.
Mike Kavanaugh and Vinnie Esola score late goals to give Northern Adirondack a 4-3 victory over Saranac Lake, ruining the Redskins' debut in CVAC boys' soccer. Pat Dillon scores twice for Saranac Lake and Jason Hounsell, once.
Dawn Malone gets all 3 goals in Crown Point's shutout victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis in girls' soccer.
Mary Hawkins converts a penalty kick in the second overtime to lift AuSable Valley to a 4-3 victory over Beekmantown in girls' soccer.
Bill Swain scores twice to help Peru defeat Plattsburgh High 3-2 in boys' soccer.

Stephanie Spear scores 3 goals to lead Peru to a 4-2 win over MAI in a girls' soccer opener.
Former Plattsburgh State standout Danny Brown is named to succeed Roger Giroux as hockey coach at MAI while Lake Placid native and former Clarkson star Kim Wescott takes over for John Moschelle at Beekmantown.
Joe Brendler scores 4 goals as Chazy spoils AuSable Valley's debut in boys' soccer with a 4-1 victory. Mark Chauvin's penalty kick account for the Patriots' goal.
40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Ray Holmes gets 3 hits and Sal Righi bests Leo Connick on the mound as The Teachers double up The Police 10-5 to win the Gentlemen's Slo-Pitch Softball League tournament.
Port Henry graduate Tony Adamowicz, 28, is the leading driver on the Sports Car Club of America Series.
50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Former PHS standout Mike Beauvais, a 1958 graduate of Syracuse University, is hired at Peru as an assistant coach and teacher.
A crowd of 13,000 watches Charlie Trombley edge Buck Holliday to win the 35-lap William McMartin Challenge for the Northeastern New York Championship at Airborne Speedway. Trombley earns $500 of a record $2,200 purse. Holliday finishes on three wheels and an axle. Bob Bruno wins accident-marred limited feature.
Paul Salerno pitches a 4-hitter and gets 2 hits as Port Henry whips Mineville 13-4 to assure itself of at least a tie for the Mountain & Valley League baseball championship. Gilbo chips in with 3 hits while Brace adds a pair. Hargett, Arthur, Corbo and Podres get hits for Mineville.
60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Bob Parker belts a home run and Harry Carpenter comes through with a clutch RBI single as McMartin Motors defeats Diamond Match 5-3 to wrap up the second-half title in the City Softball League.
Joe Reed and Paul Clukey win the final motorcycle races of the season at Moffitt Park Speedway.
Roy Young strikes out 10 batters and Bob Bruno goes 4-for-5 as the Peru American Legion outlasts AuSable Forks 13-9 in baseball.
Ann Long is elected president of the Plattsburgh Figure Skating Club with Virginia Roman, Peter McCooey, Jan Sharron and Mary Ellen Caple completing the slate of officers.
70 YEARS AGO (1939)
Bill Hafer, a standout for Lyon Mountain in the Northern League, is hired as assistant principal at Saranac Lake High School.
The International Olympic Committee considers Lake Placid as alternative site for the 1940 Winter Olympics with the outbreak of war in Europe.
