Wood goes for two straight Airborne wins

PLATTSBURGH— Defending J&S Steel Limited Late Model champion Robin Wood, overshadowed this season by rivals Bucko Branham and Jamy Begor until last week, goes for his second straight win in tonight’s TD Bank/Mold Rite Plastics race card at Airborne Speedway.

After landing the Ganienkeh Bingo/Rent-A-Wreck/Leland’s Barber Shop No. 61 in victory lane last week, Wood remarked that a return to “our basic set-up” had solved some problems that “making changes for the Canadian Masters Series” had caused.

The Busch Mini Modifieds are slated for an extra-distance 25-lap contest. Also on tap, an appearance by the SpeedSTR and REVSTAR Sprint Cars plus the Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades and Adirondack Water Sportsman Modifieds.

The SpeedSTR Sprints and their Canadian counterpart, the REVSTAR Sprints, are open wheel, open cockpit self-starting cars powered by 2.4 liter dual overhead cam Mopar engines. They adapt to both dirt and asphalt racing.

The Ernie’s Discount Tools Modifieds have the night off following Wednesday’s DIRTcar Modified Series event won by point leader Todd Stone. Round two of the series goes Tuesday, June 26, at Dunn Tire Park in Lancaster.

Grandstands open tonight at 4 p.m. Post time 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, kids 12 and under admitted free. Ticket stubs from Wednesday’s event are worth $2 off tonight’s admission.

Co-sponsored by Northline Utilities, tonight’s event also includes an appearance by the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers.
