Barracks opens today
PLATTSBURGH — The Barracks Golf Course will open for the season today.
Tanneberger alumni hoop tourney Saturday
WESTPORT — The 31st-Annual Dr. Thomas Tanneberger Alumni Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday at Westport Central School with four men's alumni teams, two women's alumni teams and two old-timers' teams. Proceeds will benefit the Dr. Tom Tanneberger Scholarship Fund.
Play will begin with a Biddy basketball game at noon, featuring Grades K-2 in skills and drills. The two men's contests will be at 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., with Biddy basketball at halftime of both games. The consolation game will tip off at 3 p.m. with a fourth-quarter shootout.
The Old-Timers' Game is set for 4 p.m., followed by the Women's Championship at 5 p.m. The Men's final will start at 6:15 p.m. Grades 7-9 will engage in foul-shooting competition at halftime of the women's game while grades 10-12 will take part in a 3-point shoot at halftime of the men's game.

Players are asked to sign in Friday from 7-9 p.m., during the open shoot-around or by 11 a.m. Saturday. The $25 fee includes a T-shirt and gathering for two after the tournament.
Admission donation is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Preschoolers will be admitted free. The Firemen's Spaghetti dinner in the school cafeteria will begin at 5 p.m. and will be open to all. Individuals can bring memorabilia to be scanned. Also, there will be a 50/50 raffle and a quilt display.
NCCS winter sports event Thursday
CHAMPLAIN — The Northeastern Clinton Winter Sports Recognition Night will be held on Thursday, March 18 in the high school auditorium. The first session will start at 6 p.m. and include volleyball, ice hockey and bowling. The second session will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will include basketball and cheerleading. All athletes, parents and guardians are invited. Athletes should dress appropriately.
YMCA registering for T-ball, coach pitch
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA has begun registration for its T-ball league (boys and girls ages 3½-5) and coach pitch leagues (ages 6-7). This instructional league starts May 8 at the Blumette Park on Sandra Avenue.
Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. The practice/games will run for 60-90 minutes Saturday mornings for eight weeks. The 3½-5-year-olds play from 9 a.m. until around 10:15 a.m., and the 6-7-year-olds play from 10:30 a.m. until around noon. All children will receive a T-shirt, hat and trophy. Volunteer coaches will be needed for the program, and those interested may indicate interest on the registration forms. The deadline for registration is May 4. PYH end-of-year celebration Saturday
PLATTSBURGH —Plattsburgh Youth Hockey is having an end-of-year celebration for its players and families Saturday, March 20 from 11 a.m—1 p.m. at Ameri-Can North. Players and their families are invited to skate. There will be no sticks or pucks, and skates and a helmet is required.
Little League sign-ups this weekend
PLATTSBURGH —Plattsburgh Little League will hold registration for the 2010 season at Dick's Sporting Goods, located at Champlain Centre, on Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m.-noon and Sunday, March 21 from 1-3 p.m.
Children ages 7-12 who live within the Plattsburgh Little League boundaries are eligible to enroll to play baseball. Registration is required, even if the child has previously played. At least one parent or legal guardian must be present with three proofs of residence and an original birth certificate. The documents will be returned at registration.

NYSEF freestylers earn 5 top-four finishes
WILMINGTON — New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF) athletes reached the podium five times last weekend in the Western Regional Freestyle Finals.
Oliver Holmes claimed two first-place finishes in Slope Style and Aerials, giving him a third-place finish in combined. Art Griffin finished second in Aerials while Jason Castle came in second in Slope Style. Abram Studler, overcoming a broken thumb, managed a fourth place in moguls.
Davis Sprague, Nate Foster and Patrick Skalski also represented NYSEF.
This weekend, the team travels to Holiday Valley for EQS Eastern Championships.
