SARANAC — Billy Davis did it all for the Meron's Expos Sunday.
The Expos recorded an 8-3 and 19-13 doubleheader sweep of the Airborne Raceway/Hockey Plus Padres in Champlain Valley Baseball League action.
Davis went the distance for the pitching win in Game 1 and took over in the second inning and went the rest of the way for the Game 2 victory.
At the plate, Davis rapped out three hits, including a home run and two RBI, in the opener, and then added a double and four RBI in the nightcap.
Mark Passino added two hits and Paul Bruno a RBI double in the opener for Meron's.
Kyle Rock led the Padres with two hits, while Mark Eggleston added a two-run double, Chris Markwica a solo homer, Shane Perrotte a triple and Pat Hoey, a double. Jordan Keysor struck out eight in taking the loss.
A big difference in the game was on defense where the Expos made no errors and the Padres, five.
Airborne/Hockey Plus (4-6) held an 11-6 advantage after two innings in Game 2 before Meron's (7-3) rallied.
Nick Lamica homered and added three singles for the Expos, while Mike Bergman slugged out two home runs to go along with three hits and five RBI. Justin Mahan, Jared Jarvis, Passino and Ryan Barcomb all chipped in with two hits apiece, with Pat Shaughnessy adding a double.
Donny Coolidge and Rock each had a double and home run for the Padres, with Coolidge driving in four runs and Rock, three. Markwica added his second home run of the day, a grand slam, while Hoey contributed a double and single and Jeff Norton, a double.
Miners 16, A's 1 (5) Miners 8, A's 7
LYON MOUNTAIN — It was two different types of games as the first-place Lyon Mountain Miners (9-1) took two from the Fourth Ward A's (1-9).
In Game 2, the A's scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. The Miners, however, regained the lead for good in the bottom of the inning when Nick Chase doubled in the tying run and David Waldron doubled in the game-winner.
Kyle Kowalowski paced Lyon Mountain with two triples and three RBI, while Waldron added a double and single, and Chase a double. Justin Besaw was the winning pitcher in relief.
Kevin Jessey, Brandon Hatch and Steve Livsey all had two hits each for the Fourth Ward, with Jessey driving in three runs and Hatch and Livsey, two apiece.
In Game 1, the Miners scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Scott Baker and Richard Chase rapped out three hits each, with Chase getting two doubles and four RBI and Baker, two doubles and two RBI.
Besaw, Kyle Kowalowski, Joel Siskavich and Nick Chase all finished with two hits apiece, with Kyle Kowalowski and Siskavich each driving in two runs.
Waldron went four innings for the pitching win. Conner Kowalowski was a defensive standout in right field.
Cardinals 3, T'jaxx 1 Cardinals 9, T'jaxx 5
PERU — Craig Bujold bested Matt Lamora in a first-game pitcher's duel and the second-place Plattsburgh Cardinals (8-2) went on to sweep the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx (1-9).
Bujold struck out 14 and allowed three hits in Game 1, while Lamora also fanned 14 and surrendered seven hits.
Zack LaPointe's two-run triple in the bottom of the third broke a 1-all tie and lifted the Cardinals to the victory.
Steve Burris and Russell Holland added two hits each for Plattsburgh, with Holland getting a RBI. Holland was a standout on defense at first base.
In Game 2, the Timberjaxx held a 2-0 lead before the Cardinals erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Winning pitcher Burris' two-run double put Plattsburgh ahead to stay.
Bujold added two hits and Dale Trombley a double for the Cardinals. David Shutts paced the Timberjaxx with two hits, while Lamora added a double.
