PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac boys' team won its fourth straight Champlain Valley Athletic Conference indoor track and field meet Saturday, but it was another squad that broke through in the girls' competition.
The Plattsburgh High girls' team ended Saranac's three-meet win streak to open the season, scoring 132 against the Chiefs' 128.
The Hornets depth aided the victory, as they had just two athletes win an event.
Emma Deshaies captured a first-place finish in the 1,500, finishing in 5:09.3. Teammate Khila Pecoraro won the triple jump with a distance of 30-0.
Ellen thew paced Saranac with victories in the 55 (7.6 seconds) and the 1,000 (3:23.4).
Morgan Kelly finished first in the 3,000 (12:45.1), and Victoria Phaneuf got a win in the shot put (35-1).
Vanessa Salamy had two victories to lead Saranac Lake to a third-place finish. Salamy finished the 55 hurdles in 9.2 seconds and teamed with Selena Baillargeon, Chelsea LaFountain and Jacinda Riggs to win the 640 relay in 1:36.7.
Nicky Trudeau had the top finish in the 300 in 46.2 seconds for the Red Storm.
Autumn Olcott had the lone first-place finish for Ticonderoga. Olcott had the top height in the high jump at 4-4.
Ashley Leta won two events for Peru. She finished the 600 in 1:43.9 for first and was a part of the winning 1,600 relay team (4:38.8) with Cheyanne Dobozy, Lea Perry and Rebecca Romanowicz.
Seton Catholic's Margaret Champagne, Maddy Munn, Melissa Whyman and Phoebe Christopher won the 3,000 relay in 10:39.1.
The Saranac boys' team won on the strength of depth as the Chiefs had just two first-place finishes. The squad of Micah Patterson, Heath Andre, Sabaan Ayub and Ty Tedford raced to victory in the 1,600 relay. Corey Duval continued his strong season in the shot put, reaching 48-2.
Ticonderoga finished second, with Jarryn Granger and Jay Hebert each capturing two top finishes for the Sentinels.
Hebert won the 55 hurdles in a time of 7.6 seconds. Granger was first in the triple jump, covering 38-4.
Those two, along with Coleman Granger and Tanner Wright, finished the 640 relay in 1:20.5, good for first place.
Jeriqho Gadway won the 1,600 in 5:02.6 for Plattsburgh, which took third.
Seton Catholic's Mitchell Ryan, Barrett Waling and Evan Page were dual-winners.
Ryan won the 3,200 in 10:48.9, Waling took first in the 600, crossing the finish line in 1:34.4, and Page captured the 1,000 in 2;54.8.
Those three also teamed with Bowen Christopher to win the 3,200 relay in 9:09.1.
Saranac Lake's Alex Beadoin showed off his speed with two wins — the 55 (6.6 seconds) and the 300 (38.5 seconds).
Paul Ford paced AuSable Valley with a victory in the high jump (5-10).
