Malone football program to meet Sunday
MALONE — The Malone Thunder & Lightning Football Program will hold a mandatory meeting for players and coaches at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Malone YMCA.

Information will be provided on players' requirements for the season and International All-Star Weekend. Also, what is included in the player's registration fee for the season and all-star event that concludes the season.

Coaches will discuss their expectations and when practices will begin as well as offensive and defensive formats for the season. All players in the League Policy are required to attend team meetings, practices, fundraisers and games to qualify for the International All-Star Weekend. It will be the start of being in compliance with the policy.

Cardinals' Bowler featured by NCAA.com
NEW YORK — Plattsburgh State senior co-captain Laurie Bowler is the lead feature on NCAA.com staff writer Amy Farnum's weekly notebook covering NCAA Division III women's hockey. Bowler is a forward from Brantford, Ont., helping the second-ranked Cardinals to a 13-1-1 record and Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division-leading 10-0-1 mark.

PYH board meeting set for Feb. 3
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Youth Hockey's (PYH) next board meeting will be Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the PSUNY Field House. The meeting is open to the public.

Chazy soccer banquet tickets on sale
CHAZY — Tickets for the Chazy varsity boys' soccer championship banquet are on sale. The banquet will be Feb. 27, at 6 p.m., at the Rainbow Banquet Hall.

Dinner choices are roast beef or stuffed chicken breast with the cost $20 per person.

Collin/Viking Race postponed to Feb. 20
BEEKMANTOWN — The Mal Collin Memorial/Viking Ski Race at Beartown has been rescheduled for Feb. 20 to allow for snowmaking efforts on the race hill. Race registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the race follows at 11.

The annual Beartown Corporate Challenge will be held Feb. 6 with teams of four competing Saturday night under the lights. Entry fee is $100 per team and entries will be accepted up to race time. Entry forms may be picked up at the Viking Ski Shop or you can e-mail sdemane@verizon.net

The Corporate Challenge is an annual fund-raiser for the not-for-profit ski area.



Gavin Giroux gets two goals
PLATTSBURGH — Gavin Giroux scored two goals last weekend in the Plattsburgh Junior Cardinals 6-1 victory over the Burlington Bobcats in squirts hockey.

Friendly Tavern II wins pool playoffs
KEESEVILLE — Friendly Tavern II won the Keeseville Pool League playoffs with VFW Post 1505 1 finishing second and Friendly Tavern I coming in third.

Colby summer camp sign-up under way
DANNEMORA — The Siberian Rod & Gun Club is registering members ages 12-14 for Camp Colby Summer Camp. Registration will continue until Feb. 5.

Colby Classic fishing derby March 6-7
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club will host the 26th-Annual Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby March 6-7 on Lake Colby in the Village of Saranac Lake. The derby will start at 7 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day.

Prizes will be awarded in the trout, salmon, perch and northern pike categories with separate prizes for adults and youths. The tournament grand prize is a charter-fishing trip for two with Fish Doctor Charters of Mexico, N.Y. Door prizes and raffles are also planned.

Fifteen tagged fish will be stocked in Lake Colby prior to the derby, courtesy of the NYSDEC-Lake Clear fish hatchery. A $100 prize will be awarded to any lucky fisherman who catches a tagged fish during the derby.

Contestants can pre-register at the Blue Line Sports Shop in Saranac Lake, or on derby days at the Lake Colby beach house across from the Adirondack Medical Center on Route 86. Derby-day registration begins at 6:45 a.m. each day.

The registration fee is $7 per adult per day, or $10 per adult for both days. Youths under 16 can register for $3 per day, or $5 for both days.
