Mariners baseball game called off

MALONE — The Clinton County Mariners at Malone Post #219 American Legion baseball game, scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed.

Lakers holding car wash fundraiser Friday

PLATTSBURGH — The Lake Champlain Lakers U17 AAU basketball team will hold a car wash from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Stewart's Shop in West Plattsburgh.

The Lakers qualified for the AAU National Tournament held at Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando from July 26 through Aug. 1 and are raising money to help offset the cost of travel.

The Lakers will also be holding a coin drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 10 in AuSable Forks.

The team is also working with the Bob Kyea Memorial Golf Tournament Aug. 6 at the AuSable Valley Golf Course. For a donation of $100, businesses can get a tournament advertising sign featuring a name and logo.

CVBL all-star game postponed

PLATTSBURGH — Saturday's all-star game between the Champlain Valley Baseball League and Vermont's Green Mountain League has been moved to July 10 at noon at Plattsburgh State's Chip Cummings Field.

Chazy Soccer Camp has openings

CHAZY — The Chazy Summer Soccer Camp, which will be held from June 28-July 2 at Chazy Central School, still has openings. The camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon and is for boys and girls ages 4-14. The cost is $65 per child.

Drop off and pick up will be in the front of the school. Walk-in registrations will be accepted the first day of the camp. For additional information, call Rob McAuliffe, at 846-3700.

Cardinal Hockey to team up with Gaffney

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State men's hockey player Eric Satim will join motivational speaker Karen Gaffney in her quest to swim across Lake Champlain Sept. 18.

This marks Gaffney's second visit to the North Country since October, when the North Country Down Syndrome Association and Cardinals Athletics welcomed her to speak at Hawkins Hall's Giltz Auditorium.

Gaffney, a graduate of Portland Community College and an accomplished swimmer who has Down Syndrome, is president of the Karen Gaffney Foundation based in Portland, Ore.

A senior-to-be from Montreal, Que., Satim was named both the team's Most Valuable Player and winner of the Chip Grabowski Award for the 2009-10 season.

Run For Rosie to be held Saturday

CADYVILLE — The 1st-Annual Run For Rosie will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cadyville Rec Park. There will be a three-mile run and a one-mile run/walk. Entry fee is $10 per person. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 150 entrants.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Rose Rascoe Maynard Memorial Scholarship Fund. Maynard loved to run and train at the Cadyville Rec Park and June 26 was her birthday.

The scholarship will be given out each year to a deserving Seton Catholic athlete. For more information, contact Keith Bombard, at 643-7807.

Kneucraft wins city basketball league

PLATTSBURGH — Fourth-seeded Kneucraft recorded a 68-60 victory over second-seeded Edward-Jones to win the playoff championship in the City Men's Basketball League. Kneucraft posted a 70-54 win over top-seeded Lashway's Meat Market in the semifinals, while Edwards-Jones recorded a 66-64 decision over Barcomb's Furniture.

Anthony Hodge scored 34 points, Matt Hughey 14 and Travis Gorham 14 to lead Kneucraft in the finals. Mike Medberry tossed in 22 points and Dustin Blockson 17 for Edward-Jones.

In the semifinals, Hughey had 19 points, Hodge 16, Cody Kerlow 13 and Gorham 13 in Kneucraft's victory over Lashway's. Ricky McCann led Lashway's with 25 points and Travis Secore added 10.

Medberry's 40 points powered Edward-Jones to its win. Dustin Gratto scored 20 points, Steve Carder 11 and Casey Lamberton 11 for Barcomb's Furniture.

Medberry was chosen as the league's Most Valuable Player and McCann as the scoring champion.

Old Timers softball on Saturday

WEST PLATTSBURGH — An American Legion Exhibition Old Timers Softball Tournament will be held Saturday at Post 1619. An opening ceremony with the Post 1619 color guard will take place at 1 p.m., with games to follow.

All teams are asked to be at Post 1619 at noon on Saturday. Combining players from different Posts to make up a team will be acceptable. Age requirements are from 45-years-old and up.

ADK to have walking tour of Essex

PLATTSBURGH — The Algonquin Chapter of the ADK is inviting the public to join the chapter on a walking tour of the Village of Essex, an architectural gem on the shores of Lake Champlain, on Tuesday, June 29. Three-on-three soccer tournaments set

SARANAC — There will be two three-on-three soccer tournaments this summer. The tournaments are one-day events, with age groups ranging from U-8 through high school, and will be held Sunday, July 18 and Saturday, August 14.

Co-ed softball tourney August 21-22

WEST PLATTSBURGH — The 7th-Annual Play to Give Co-Ed Softball Tournament is set for August 21-22 at American Legion Post 1619. Proceeds benefit the FitzPatrick Cancer Center. Team entry fee is $125 for either the company or community division, and rules state there must be at least two female players on the field at all times.
