Expos split with Haymakers

PLATTSBURGH — The Meron's Expos split a non-league wood bat baseball doubleheader with the Troy Haymakers Saturday, recording a 6-5 win in Game 1 before dropping a 19-11 decision in Game 2 at Lefty Wilson Field.

In the opener, the Haymakers, who play in the Albany Twilight League, held a 5-0 lead before the Expos rallied for two in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie it.

Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Meron's loaded the bases with nobody out and Billy Davis, who was the winning pitcher in relief, hit one off the fence to drive in the game-winner.

Paul Bruno led the Expos with two hits, while Pat Shaughnessy belted a two-run homer and Mike Bergman, a double.

A wild second game featured a combined five home runs and 39 hits as the Haymakers rallied for the win.

Tory Bouyea, Shaughnessy and Mark Passino led the Expos with three hits apiece, with Bouyea getting two doubles, Passino a home run and Shaughnessy, a double.

Bruno added a double and home run, Justin Mahan two doubles, Brent Peterson a single and double, Davis two hits and Bergman two hits in the loss. Davis took the setback in relief.
