Legends Night features car rides, raffles, points races

PLATTSBURGH — Tonight’s Legends Night event at Airborne Speedway will offer car rides for the young while featuring the old who led the fields of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

Race car rides for kids will kick off the event at 5:40 p.m.

Airborne greats also will be honored, including Jackie Peterson, 89, who competed during Airborne’s inaugural season in 1955.

On the track, the Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified 30-lap main event, which is the next to last Modified point race of the season, will feature Todd Stone, winner of last week’s Run What Ya Brung competition. He is seeking his first ever Airborne title.

Stone holds a 14-point advantage over Canadian Pat McGrail. George Foley, last Saturday’s runner-up, is still in the hunt mathematically, but he needs Stone and McGrail to have a tough night.

Also in action will be the J&S Steel Limited Late Models, Adirondack Water Sportsman Modifieds, Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades and Busch Mini Modifieds.

Two point races remain for the Limited Late Models. The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades and Mini Modifieds have three point races remaining.

Bucko Branham, who’s been on a tear of late, leads the Limited Late Model division by 22 points over defending champion Robin Wood. Erick Sayles of Lake Placid is in the catbird seat in the Mini Modifieds on the strength of four wins and 13 top-five finishes.

Sportsman Modified point leader Nick Heywood of Plattsburgh will be after his second straight win and seventh overall.

There will also be a $500 raffle prize for a weekly competitor and a lucky fan, courtesy of Liquor & Wine Warehouse. A boys’ and a girls’ bike will be given away courtesy of Econo Lodge Inns & Suites.s

Gates open at 4 p.m. Adult admission is $12, and kids 12 and younger are admitted free.
