PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Valley Baseball League fans will get an opportunity to watch both semifinal playoff games today.
The second-seeded Lyon Mountain Miners will play the third-seeded and defending playoff champion Fourth Ward Cardinals at noon, followed by the top-seeded Meron’s Expos against the fourth-seeded Airborne Speedway Padres at 4 p.m.
Both opening games in the best-of-three semifinals will be played at South Acres Field. Both are nine innings in regulation length.
Next Sunday, the Miners will host the Cardinals for games two and three, if necessary. Meanwhile, the Expos and the Padres will remain at South Acres Field for the remainder of their series with Meron’s being the home team.
The Expos and Miners had first-round playoff byes.
In the one-game quarterfinals last Sunday, the Cardinals advanced with an 11-6 victory over the sixth-seeded Fourth Ward Timberjaxx as Tory Bouyea led the offense with two doubles and four RBI, while Steve Burris struck out 12 in going the distance for the pitching win.
Meanwhile, Frank Brogna allowed one run over seven innings, while Joey Painter, Jeff Norton and Zach Myers rapped two hits each in the Padres’ 10-2 win over the fifth-seeded Fourth Ward A’s
