DID YOU KNOW?

You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

Tourney to aid Hannah's Hope
BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown and Plattsburgh High volleyball programs will host the Fifth-Annual Volley for a Cure Tournament Saturday at the Beekmantown gym. This year's tournament will benefit a young girl with local ties to the greater Plattsburgh community.

Once again, area volleyball players will come together to participate in a competitive varsity tournament as well as to collect donations for the Hannah's Hope Foundation. In 2008, Hannah Sarah Sames was diagnosed with Giant Axonal Neuropathy (GAN). Hannah's mother, Lori Burnell, is a graduate of Beekmantown, while her father, Matt Sames, is a Plattsburgh High graduate.

More than 175 volleyball players from the modified to the varsity level are involved in making this a successful fundraiser. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.

Anyone wanting to donate can stop by the tournament or contact Shana Hileman at BCS or Vickie McMillan at PHS.

The carnival is open to all with proceeds to benefit veterans' service programs.

A fish-fry dinner, from 5-7 p.m. today, will kick off the weekend with the WinterFest Dance and the crowning of king and queen to follow. Music will be by Denim.
