ARC Foundation golf tourney Friday

PERU — The 17th-Annual ARC Foundation Golf Tournament will be held at Adirondack Golf & Country Club on Friday. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

Complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be available and served throughout the day. This will be followed by a full dinner with steak and chicken and the announcement of the golf awards. The event is being co-sponsored by CFA Insurance Agency and Keeseville Pharmacy.

Youth soccer coaches' clinic scheduled

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will be providing a National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) Introduction to Coaching Youth Sports Certification Clinic for all youth soccer coaches on July 27. The clinic will be held at the Youth Bureau offices at 133 Margaret Street in the Old Courthouse Building from 5-8 p.m.

The certification program covers the areas of psychology of coaching youth sports, maximizing athletic performance, first aid and safety, how to organize a fun and interesting practice and tips on teaching youth sports techniques. Coaches are required to complete an exam, sign a Code of Ethics Pledge and pay a nominal fee of $20 (check or money order only, payable to NYSCA).

Membership benefits include $1,000,000 Excess Liability Insurance, Youth Sport Coach, a NYSCA publication, and an official NYSCA membership card. Pre-registration is required.

Labatt Blue/Big Earl's win tourney

TUPPER LAKE — Labatt Blue Light Lime and Big Earl's/Plattsburgh Bass Club, two of the top A Division teams in the Adirondack Slo-Pitch Softball League, combined forces to capture the Fourth of July Old Home Days Softball Tournament.

The tourney champs were undefeated throughout the two-day event and played Utica in the championship game. Utica pushed across 10 runs in the top of the first inning, but the local team played outstanding defense the rest of the way, holding Utica to one more run. Labatt Blue Light Lime and Big Earl's/Plattsburgh Bass Club then pulled away to a 22-11 win to claim the first-place prize of $1,000.

Team members include: Kevin Leavine, Jacques DeMars Sr., David Peryer, Scott McCormick, Tom Perry, Ian Brown, Neil Stevens, Jacques DeMars Jr., Donny LaPorte, Jason Myatt and Jared Peryea.

Doug's wins AuSable softball tourney

AUSABLE FORKS — Doug's Bar & Grill went unbeaten in the two-day double-elimination event to take first place in the recent Annual AuSable Forks Fire Department Benefit Softball Tournament.

Doug's advanced to the finals by beating 5-Hole Pub, from Saranac Lake, 10-9, in come-from-behind fashion by scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Doug's closed out Saturday with a 3-1 win over The Pirates.

Sunday, Doug's handed Altona its first loss by a 15-5 score. Altona managed to battle back to the finals by defeating third-place Parrow's in the semifinals. In the championship game, Doug's recorded a 3-1 win over Altona in a game that featured some great defensive plays.

Team members include: Doug Stevens, Kevin Leavine, Scott McCormick, David Peryer, Neil Stevens, Jacques DeMars Sr., Ian Brown, Jay Drollette, Jason Kaplan, Jeremy Bissonette, Jim Reisdorf, Danny Davison and Cory Daniels. Leavine, McCormick, Bissonette and Daniels were named as tourney all-stars, while Stevens was the Defensive Player of the tourney and Brown the Most Valuable Player.
