Beekmantown holds on against Saranac Lake

BEEKMANTOWN — Senior Adam Goldfarb’s goal at 23:03 of the opening half proved to be the game-winner in Beekmantown’s 1-0 defeat of Saranac Lake in boys’ Northern Soccer League action Friday.

Goldfarb’s marker was assisted by Nick Danussi.

Eagles head coach Ryan Loucy was pleased with his team’s effort following a game where Beekmantown outshot the Red Storm, 14-10.

“Any win is a good win and tonight was a total team effort,” Loucy said. “(Keeper) Matt LaClair played fairly aggressive in net and made key saves when we needed him to.”

Loucy recognized the stellar play of the Red Storm’s defense throughout the entire duration of the contest.

“Their defense played good enough to keep themin contention and they continuously cleared shots out of the zone. Alex Beaudoin played a great game.”

LaClair finished with seven saves in net for the Eagles. Oliver Holmes also made seven saves in a losing cause for Saranac Lake.

Minerva/Newcomb 5, Crown Point 0

OLMSTEDVILLE — Jorge Bertomeu blasted two goals into the back of the net in the Mountaineers blanking of the Panthers.

Joao Silva opened the game’s scoring at 20:02 of the first half with the assist credited to Trevor Moulton. The one-goal lead was enlarged to three following markers from Bertomeu and Wesley LaBar at 34:30 and 34:53, respectively.

Bertomeu then continued his stellar play with a second-half goal at 13:13. Tyler Clickner recorded the final goal with just under 26 minutes remaining in the contest.

Silva and LaBar each finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Keeper Brendon Crowningshield played an exceptional game in net for Crown Point despite the loss with 20 saves on 25 shots faced.

Willsboro 3, Seton Catholic 2, OT

WILLSBORO — Sam Politi’s goal with 3:35 gone in the second overtime lifted the Warriors past the Knights.

Brandon Porter sent a line drive pass to Politi, who flicked it past a Seton Catholic defender and went in alone on a breakaway. Knights’ keeper Keagan Briggs got a piece of the ball, but couldn’t keep it from going into the net.

Willsboro (4-5, 2-3) held a 2-0 lead on two goals by Seth Swires, the first coming in the first half and the second 14 minutes into the second stanza.

The Knights, however, didn’t quit and rallied back to tie the game and force overtime on goals by Chris Kustos at 19:30 and Keegan Frenya at 32:05. Kaden Baugh assisted on both goals.

Dakoda Latford finished with 17 saves in the Willsboro nets and Briggs 10 stops for Seton Catholic. The Knights held a 25-18 shot advantage.

Swires, up top, and Porter, at center midfield, were standouts for the Warriors.

Northern Adirondack 1, Westport 0

ELLENBURG — The Bobcats held a big edge in shots, but needed Darian Velasquez’s goal at 26:30 of the second half to pull out a win over the Eagles.

Brady Smart attacked the end line and crossed the ball in front to Velasquez, who scored on a header.

Northern Adirondack held a 30-3 advantage in shots and Danny Burger recorded the shutout with three saves. The Bobcats got strong play up the middle from Collin LaBombard, Ryan Paiser, Nolan Ferguson and Ryan Manion.

Sam Napper stopped 25 shots in the Westport nets, including a big one on Manion when he tipped the ball over the net.

Northeastern Clinton 4, Saranac 0

SARANAC — Kyle McCarthy tallied a hat trick in the Cougars shutout of the Chiefs.

Saranac held Northeastern Clinton scoreless in the first 25 minutes of play before McCarthy, a senior forward, single-handedly executed a scoring barrage in the last 15-minutes of the opening half.

All of three of McCarthy’s markers were assisted by Avery.

The lone undefeated team in the NSL held a 3-0 halftime lead before Mason Letourneau concluded scoring. They Cougars held a 13-5 shot advantage.

Josh Rabideau was credited with the win in net for Northerneastern Clinton, fending off two shots.

Saranac head coach James Testo said his team battled throughout despite the loss of multiple starters to injuries and illness.

“We were much stronger in our second go-around (against Northeastern Clinton),” Testo said. “The kids played hard and we held them scoreless for the first 25-minutes.”

ELIZABETHTOWN — Brody Hooper led the charge in the Lions’ three-goal first half performance in their defeat of the Blue Bombers.

Hooper registered the first goal of the match with just under seven minutes gone before Isaiah Turner and William Tomkins each recorded goals of their own at 9:28 and 14:21, respectively.

Tomkins’ goal came on a breakaway opportunity and was punched into the back of the net following a rebound chance.

Caleb Denton closed out the game’s scoring at 4:25 of the second stanza by volleying a shot passed the line with the assist credited to Hooper.

Justin LaPier got the win between the pipes for the Lions after fending off 12 shots in net.

SCHROON LAKE — Jesse Shaughnessy scored four goals to power the Wildcats (6-3, 6-1) past the Jaguars.

Jeff Armstrong, Bobby Rose and Justin Lough also tallied goals for Schroon Lake, which held a 4-1 halftime lead.

Nate Prouty and John Ordway scored goals for Johnsburg.

Caleb Maisonville recorded the victory in net with six saves.

Chateaugay 3, St. Lawrence 3

CHATEAUGAY — Ian Lynch recorded a hat-trick for St. Lawrence, while Chateaugay’s Chad Stalter registered two in what ended up as a 3-3 draw in Northern Athletic Conference play Friday.

Lynch opened a scoring barrage that featured three total tallies in the first six minutes of play to put the Larries on top 1-0.

Then, Chateaugay’s Tyler Martin evened the score just 28-seconds later with a direct kick that found the back of the net. Stalter pushed the Bulldogs lead to one going into halftime.

Lynch had his foot in each of the next two markers, firing shots into the back of the net at 11:46 and 25:30, respectively.

Stalter executed the game-tying goal with just over 34 minutes remaining in the contest.

Chateaugay lead the shots on goal department 25-13.
