PLATTSBURGH — The Section VII tennis championships were suspended Saturday because of rain.
Competition was washed out Sunday.
When the sun finally broke out, play resumed Monday to set up finals showdowns today at Plattsburgh High for the boys and the Plattsburgh State Field House for the girls with a 1 p.m. start time.
Rain hit when Peru's Stephanie Omlin and teammate Stephanie Demarais were playing in singles quarterfinals Saturday, as were Beekmantown's Emily Carlin and Plattsburgh High's Marle Curle.
When it was resumed Monday, Omlin and Carlin both moved on to the semifinals with two-set wins.
In the semifinals, Carlin edged Northeastern Clinton's Alanna Cruz, 6-4, 6-3. Carlin, the No. 2 seed, will meet the top-seeded Omlin in today's final. Omlin sent Saranac's Rachel Leitsch packing with a two-set win, 6-1, 6-1.
Only one doubles quarterfinal match was finished Saturday. On Monday, Beekmantown's Alexandra Provost and Bailey Waterbury, the No. 2 seed, won a three-set quarterfinal match over Peru's Katie Lawless and Margaret Mitchell.
Peru's Samantha Banker and Abby Higgins defeated Saranac's Hannah Klooster and Megan Harris in three sets, losing the second in a tiebreaker.
No. 2 seed Natalia Smith and Georgie Knox defeated Northern Adirondack's Katelynn King and Tessa King.
Provost and Waterbury fell in the semifinals to the top seed, Northeastern Clinton duo Kristen Langr and Paige Southwick, 6-2, 7-5.
Smith and Knox edged Banker and Higgins, 6-3, 6-4, to set up a finals meeting with Langr and Southwick today.
The boys' doubles semifinal matches Monday were the most competitive of the tournament, with both going to three sets.
Dolan Riley and Nick Hansen of Lake Placid defeated Plattsburgh's Shea Crockett and Danny O'Halloran by sets of 6-4, 3-6 and 6-1.
Riley and Hansen will face Saranac's Shawn and Corey Bissonette, who also won Monday.
The Bissonettes battled back from a first-set loss of 4-6 to Northeastern Clinton's Bobby Marks and Richie Collins before winning the next two, 6-3 and 6-2.
Riley and Hansen advanced to the semifinal after a resumed quarterfinal victory over Charles Payson and Dylan Riley of Beekmantown, and Crockett and O'Halloran bead Peru's Patrick Daly and Keegan Parrotte in the quarterfinals, as well.
In boys' singles action, Seton's Jang Bin Park, Beekmantown's Eric Mitchell and Plattsburgh's Adam Emery won their suspended quarterfinal matches, but Park and Emery lost in the semifinals.
Beekmantown's Mark Price ousted Park, 6-0 and 6-2 while Mitchell defeated Emery, 6-1 and 6-4.
Price and Mitchell will face each other in the finals.
