ELLENBURG CENTER — The Northern Adirondack Bobcats showed resiliency and good staying power Monday night as they rebounded from a season-opening setback to defeat Peru 3-2 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference volleyball.
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead with victories of 25-22, 25-20, but the Indians made a match of it by winning the next two games, 25-23, 25-20. NAC (1-1) finally nailed down the victory in its home opener with a 25-15 triumph in Game 5.
“The seniors really stepped up tonight after our loss to AuSable on Friday,” NAC coach Katrina Castine said.
Veterans Shonni Velasquez (13 kills, one block), Emma Trombley (three kills, six blocks) and Hannah Charland (eight kills) led a strong game at the net. Trombley and Charland also had stellar service games with five aces apiece. Newcomer Olivia Barnaby contributed three aces.
MacKenzie Fountain, another first-year player, picked up 14 assists to go with a team-high 15 points.

PLATTSBURGH — Deanna LaBarge recorded 11 kills and three blocks to lead Plattsburgh High School to a 3-0 victory.
PHS (2-0) was strong at the net with 25 kills. Kadijah Brown came through with four while Katie Stetz and Kianna Dragoon each had three.
Offensively, the Hornets served 13 aces with Taylor Witkiewicz leading the attack with six and Kayla Boise contributing four. Dragoon also had an exceptional game as playmaker with 18 assists.
.Sam Wood led the way for Saranac with seven points, a pair of aces, two blocks and three kills. Ashley Byerley added five points and an ace, while Sam Aierle finished with three points and four assists.

LAKE PLACID — Mirissa O’Neill played a strong game with six kills, seven points, two aces and four digs to lead the Patriots (2-0) to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of Lake Placid (0-2).
Sophomore Lindsay Brown served 15 points with five aces, captain Belle O’Toole came up with 15 assists and Noelle Miller recorded 10 kills with seven points and two aces for AuSable Valley.
Serina Hayes led Lake Placid with three blocks and three assists.

SARANAC LAKE — Jordynne Ales and Hunter Gates led the charge for the Eagles in a victory over the Red Storm.
Ales had 12 points and nine aces, while Gates finished with 13 points and nine aces. Michaela Lafountain chipped in with 28 assists, and Shannon Ryan added 15 kills as Beekmantown took games of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-6 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Saranac Lake was paced by Kylie Sapone’s five points, four assists and three aces. Emily Fountain finished with three points, two kills and an ace.
