CADYVILLE — The Saranac boys’ and girls’ cross country teams opened their season Thursday with victories over Beekmantown and Saranac Lake in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action at the Cadyville Recreation Park.
On the boys’ side, the Chiefs recorded a 24-32 victory over Beekmantown and a 17-46 win over Saranac Lake.
For the girls, Saranac was a 20-43 winner over Saranac Lake and a 15-50 victor over Beekmantown.
The Beekmantown boys posted a 17-42 decision over Saranac Lake, while the Saranac Lake girls prevailed, 17-41, over Beekmantown.
Saranac’s Zach LePage was the overall winner for the boys with a 17:56. The competiton between the Chiefs and Eagles was closer than the score indicates.
Josh Wade placed third for the Chiefs in 18:54 and Sean Tyrell fourth in 18:55. The Eagles’ top runners were Colin Quackenbush in second with an 18:38 and Jonathan Graziane fifth in 19:01.
Saranac Lake’s top runner was Zane Peletteri in seventh in 19:07.
The girls’ individual honors went to Saranac Lake’s Elena Beideck, who was first in 21:57.
However, places two through 11 went to Saranac runners as Lexi Blockson took second in 22:27, Taylor Manor third in 23:29, Abby Cerne fourth in 23:39 and Elysha O’Connell fifth in 24:01.

PHS boys win three
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh and Seton Catholic boys tied, 28-all, but the
Hornets won the tie-breaker when their sixth and seventh runners finished ahead of the Knights’ sixth runner.
The Hornets went 3-0 in all, including a 25-30 victory over Lake Placid and a 19-37 decision over AuSable Valley.
Lake Placid recorded a 32-33 win over AuSable Valley and a 21-24 victory over Seton Catholic, while the Knights were 17-44 winners over the Patriots.
Plattsburgh’s Jeriquo Gadway was the individual winner with a 16:22, and teammate Keenan Hunt-Stone was fourth in 18:37.
Seton Catholic took three of the top five places, with Mitchell Ryan second in 16:37, Evan Page third in 18:18 and Erik Ziemer fifth in 18:40.
On the girls’ side, Seton Catholic’s Margaret Champagne was the individual winner in 19:37 as the Knights recorded wins over Plattsburgh (26-31), AuSable Valley (18-37) and Lake Placid (15-50).
The Hornets had victories over AuSable Valley (15-50) and Lake Placid (15-50).
In addition to Champagne, the Knights’ Maddy Munn was third in 20:43 and Melissa Whyman fourth in 21:08.
Lake Placid’s Nina Armstrong (20:01) and Gabby Armstrong (21:21) placed second and fifth, respectively. Natalie Casey-Sanger was the Hornets’ top runner, finishing sixth with a 22:52.

Ti boys, Peru girls win 2
CHAMPLAIN — The Ticonderoga boys’ and Peru girls’ cross country teams finished with a pair of victories.
In the boys’ competition, the Sentinels scored wins over Peru 17-38 and Northeastern Clinton 16-47, while Peru defeated Northeastern Clinton 18-44.
Ticonderoga placed four runners inside the top five, including winner Javeed Nazir, who crossed the finish line with a time of 18:28. Tyler Belden, Shawn Silliman, and Jacob Young all finished within striking distance of Nazir by finishing 2-3-4, respectively.
Kyle Agony was the fastest runner for Peru at 19:19. Northeastern Clinton’s Anthony Piche was 44-seconds out of the top five, good enough for seventh place.
Ticonderoga’s Cody Parent and Peru runners Josh Romanowicz and Andrew Thew rounded out the top 10.
For the girls, Peru was a 15-48 winner over Ticonderoga and recorded a 15-50 victory over Northeastern Clinton, while the Ticonderoga girls’ squad executed its lone victory of the day over the Cougars, 15-50.
Ashley Leta edged out teammate Meghan Mazella by 46 seconds to win.
Samantha Smith grabbed the quick time for Northeastern Clinton at 21:08 to grab third.
Peru’s Liz Uliva, Ticonderoga’s Niomi Forkas and Abby Adams, and Indian runners Taylor Desrocher and Shawna Fliss rounded out the day’s top-10 finishers.
