Junior Mariners gain revenge

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Junior Mariners avenged an early-season loss Wednesday with an 8-3 victory over the Fourth Ward A’s in non-league baseball action at Lefty Wilson Field.

The Mariners (13-15) used the game as a tune-up for this weekend’s Vermont Outlaws Tournament. Clinton County will play two games Saturday, the first being a 10 a.m. contest against Ottawa.

Quenton Barber rapped out four hits for the Mariners, while Brandon Buksa added three, including a double.

Adam Goldfarb, Justin Stevens, Tanner Rascoe, Mitchell Cunningham and Andrew Kneussle chipped in with a single each. Clinton County finished with 12 hits in all.

Cunningham had a 2-run single, while Quenton Barber and Stevens added RBI hits in a 5-run first inning.

Seven pitchers were on the mound for an inning apiece for the Mariners.

“Our pitchers were excellent — everybody had good command,” said Mariners coach Gary Duquette. “We also played great defense. We made just one error and it didn’t hurt us.

“We avenged a loss to them early in the season.”

Tom Curran, Reilly Lawless, Joe Tolosky, Joe Kirkpatrick and Brandon Hatch rapped a single each for the A’s.
