Brian D. Bashaw of Peru had the top showing among local anglers at the LCI Father’s Day Derby presented by Yamaha. The annual fishing tournament was held Saturday through Monday on Lake Champlain.
Bashaw placed first in the Jolley Angler of the Year (Coolwater Division) standings with 1,450 points. Over three days, he hauled in three smallmouth bass weighing 4.34, 4.57 and 4.90 pounds, respectively. Bashaw took first in the Coolwater Division team standings (two total entries by 1 to 4 people) by entering his two largest smallmouths.
Bashaw also took second in the Smallmouth Category with his 4.90-pound fish. Jesse J. Carrier of Williamstown, Vt. edged him with a 5-pound bass. Carrier also took the Super Bonus Grand Prize in the Coolwater Division.
Kenny Gaudette of Shelburn, Vt. won the Walleye Category (7.48 pounds), and Robert Briggs of Danville, Vt. had the biggest lake trout (14.15). That helped Briggs claim the Super Bonus Grand Prize in the Coldwater Division.
Jason R. Gamelin of Colchester, Vt. claimed the Northern PIke Category (12.10) while Plattsburgh’s Richard J. Miller III placed fourth with a catch weighing 11.07.
Colchester native Murray A. Seaman took the Atlantic Salmon Category (7.42), Brian B. Thompson of Swanton, Vt. won the Extraordinary Category with an 18.05-pound sheepshead and Devin D. Prue of Newport, Vt. had the best largemouth bass (6.02). Travis L. White of Bristol, Vt. caught the biggest carp (28.21).
Paul Biggs placed first in the Coldwater Division of the Jolley Angler of the Year standings with 1,236.39 points, and John G. Hebert won the Warmwater Division with 1,464.64 points. Joshua Ladd earned the Super Bonus Grand Prize in the Warmwater Division.
Sabrina Warton (Palmer, Mass.) won the Ladies of the Lake Division with an Atlantic salmon weighing 7.60 pounds. That catch also gave her the Junior Coldwater Division. Ryan Badger of Colchester claimed the Junior Coolwater Division (walleye, 6.64), and Jordan Ayer took first in the Junior Warmwater Division (bowfin, 12.05). Melanie Dostie of Milton, Vt. finished first in the Junior Yellow Perch Category (0.81), and Moriah’s Garrett Denton (0.65) was third.
Biggs and Wayne Calderara took first in the Coldwater Division of the team standings with 961.72 points, and Tom Callahan claimed the Warmwater Division with 1,052 points.
