CCC women win 3rd on road

TROY — The Clinton Community College women's soccer team got a little lax with a 1-0 lead going into halftime Tuesday at Hudson Valley.

But when Sidney Jenkins knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal for the Vikings midway through the second half, the Cougars woke up.

Kim Dragoon scored her second of the day and Jade Sayward and Chelsea LaRose added a goal apiece in the second stanza to lead Clinton to a 4-1 victory.

"We dominated most of the second half," Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. "Once we got hungry, we did a great job.

"We were able to possess it and create some chances."

The Cougars (3-2) owe much of the victory to the defense. Clinton held Hudson Valley to only eight shots the entire game.

"Our team defense did really well, starting with Erin Sullivan and working our way back to Autumn Irwin, Brooke Pray and Katie McIntosh," Dixon said. "And the forwards did a really good job making things happen."

Clinton posted 36 shots in the game. LaRose, Sayward and Shauni Trombly added an assist apiece.

"The forwards — Kim Dragoon, Jade Sayward, Codia Holland and Chelsea LaRose — are really starting to work well together," Dixon added. "We had really some nice combinations today."

The Cougars host Paul Smith's Thursday in their home opener.

"We played our first five games on the road and coming out 3-2 is a very positive sign, especially for such a young team," Dixon concluded.
