Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Jillian Meconi, a junior forward at The College of Saint Rose, earns the ECAC Award of Valor for her courageous battle with acute asthma.

Stan Riggs and Jack LaBombard receive Lifetime Achievement awards from the Upstate chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Kim Sherwin scores 3 goals to lead Malone past Chateaugay 5-3 in girls' soccer.

20 YEARS AGO (1990)

Karen Snow and Spike Loreman win the club championships at AuSable Valley Golf Course.

The Glens Falls Greenjackets defeat the Montreal Voyageurs before 2,000 fans in an Empire Football League preview game at Bailey Ave. field.

Scott Baker and Tim Drollette belt 3-run homers and Robin Vaughan adds 2 homers to power the Redford River Rats to a 14-12 win over Peru's Al Patchwork in the deciding game of the CVBL championship series.

Kim Baeyen scores in overtime to lift Plattsburgh State to a 2-1 win over Clarkson, giving first-year coach Karen Wiley her first victory with the Cardinals.

Dale Earl and Chris Reynolds each score twice as Chateaugay beats Brushton-Moira 6-0 in a boys' soccer opener.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

Jeff Doorey strikes out 13 batters and helps his cause with a 2-run homer as the Peru Well Drillers sweep McGee's in the CVBL championship series.

Jake Bell gets 4 hits as Plattsburgh Coca-Cola wins the Peru Slo-Pitch Softball title only days after capturing the Keeseville Medium-Pitch crown.

Megan Kennedy's goal gives Plattsburgh High a 1-1 tie with Beekmantown while her sister, Ann Kennedy, scores 3 goals to help St. John's tie Moriah 3-3.

Bobby Porter runs for 110 yards and 2 TDs and Dave Baker passes to Sandy Delong for another score in Ticonderoga's 19-6 win over MAI.

Mark McLean passes for 155 yards and 2 TDs (to Pat Parrow and Greg Roy) and Chris Treibel runs for 182 yards and 2 TDs in AuSable Valley's 34-23 win over Moriah.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)

Beano Blaise hurls Rustic Inn to a pair of victories over Sharkey's Riverside Hotel, giving the Peru team the AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball crown.

Tom Brown (Bluejacket Class) and Harry Walcoff (Ensign) are the big winners in the Valcour Sailing Club's Labor Day competition.

Pete Proctor hits 2 homers to lead the Beekmantown peewees to the Cumberland Head Invitational baseball championship while Tim Manor gets 2 big hits to lead Lyon Mountain to the grasshopper crown.

50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Pauline Lafountaine (age 13-16) and Dennis Mooney (unsder 12) win their divisions at the State Field Archery championships.

Dave Rowe shoots a 34 to lead Schroon Lake to victory in a 4-school golf match at the AuSable Club in St. Huberts. Scott McPhail of Elizabethtown cards a 39.

Charles McCormick, Con Bidwell, George Huzor, John Pulner and Bruce LaValley claim trophies in drag racing at Longueuil.

Jessica Newberry of AuSable Forks places 13th in dressage at the Rome Summer Olympics.

The Cleveland Indians offer a tryout to former Peru standout Lew Cody when he comples his Army hitch.

60 YEARS AGO (1950)

George Coryer pitches a 2-hitter and Gary Martineau and Bernie Duquette contribute key doubles as the Plattsburgh Genesses top Morrisonville 2-0.

Ithaca graduate Larry Holdridge is hired as coach and physical education instructor at Keeseville.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)

Notre Dame graduate Dan Cunha is named coach at MAI, taking over for Sid Spiegel, who resigns to devote more time to his family business.

Buddy Garrant belts a 2-run homer to send the Texaco All-Stars to a 7-4 win over the Old-Timers.

Roger B. Prescott defeats Al Sharron 1-up and Pete Sorensen 3 and 2 to win the championship flight at Hotel Champlain.
