Friends of NCCS golf tourney Sept. 12

ROUSES POINT — The Second-Annual Friends of NCCS Golf Tournament, a four-man scramble, will be held Sept. 12 at the North Country Golf Club in Rouses Point.

All teams must have a minimum of 40 handicap altogether to enter.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as prizes for men's and women's longest drive and closest to the pin. Parker Chevrolet is a major sponsor of the event and will be donating a car for a hole-in-one grand prize.

Cost is $70 for non-members and $50 for members with the cost including cart and dinner following the tournament. Register at the North Country Golf Club pro shop.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the boys' and girls' golf team and the girls' basketball team at NCCS.

Westport to host soccer clinic Tuesday

WESTPORT — The Westport Youth Commission will host a free soccer clinic Tuesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the town offices.

All volunteers who plan to referee the biddy soccer league are welcome to attend.

On Saturday, Sept.18, the North Country Down Syndrome Association will be hosting a special event in conjunction with its annual Buddy Walk, which will be held the following afternoon. Karen Gaffney, a young woman with Down syndrome, will be making an 8.6 mile swim across Lake Champlain, culminating with a landing reception at the Plattsburgh City Beach at around 11:30 am.

As part of the reception at the City Beach, there will be a chili cook-off, with prize money awarded in various categories.

The event will be open to the first 12 entries, with the deadline to apply set for Sept. 11.

Saranac Booster Club Golf Tourney Sept. 26

PERU — The Fourth Annual Saranac Booster Club Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 26th at the Adirondack Golf and Country Club. Shotgun start will be at noon.

The format will be a 4-person scramble with no handicap.

Entry-fee is $60 for non-members and $45 for members which includes greens fee, cart, and a buffet following the event.

There will be prizes for first, second and third place as well as awards for men's and women's longest drive, closest to the pin and closest to the line.

A hole-in-one contest sponsored by Price Chopper, a skins game, mulligans, a 50/50 drawing and a raffle are also planned. Teams are asked to pre-register by Sept. 21.

Skate With Us program begins this weekend

PLATTSBURGH — The Skating Club of the Adirondacks will begin its Skate With Us Basic Skills program and advanced ice this weekend with ice on Saturday and Sunday, September 11-12.

Registration is available at the Plattsburgh State Field House before skating.

The program schedule and other information is as follows:

SnowPlow Sam 1 — 3 - For Pre-school age children (child will be put in groups according to age) — 30 minutes of lessons & 15 minute of free-skate

Basic 1 — 3 (child will be put in groups according to age and ability) - 30 minutes of lessons & 15 minute of free-skate

Basic 4 — 8 (child will be put in groups according to age and ability) - 15 minutes power stroking, 30 minutes of lessons & 15 minutes of free-skate

Adult Learn to Skate - 30 minutes of lessons and 15 minutes of free-skate and 15 minutes power stroking.

FreeStyle - 15 minutes power stroking, 30 minutes of lessons and 15 minutes of free-skate.

Basic 4 thru Basic 8, Freestyle, and Adult: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. ($90/five week session)

Adult Group: 5:00-5:15 & 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. ($90/five week session)

Freestyle Group: 5:00-5:15 & 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. ($90/five week session)

CYH monthly meeting slated for Thursday

CHAZY — Chazy Youth Hockey will hold its monthly meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Scotts' Rink in Chazy.

Neligan wins Barracks Club Championship

PLATTSBURGH — Tom Neligan entered the final round with a 2-shot lead and shot a 79 Monday, claiming the Barracks Club Championship by five shots over runner-up Chuck Voorhees and then-defending champion Bill Fisher. Neligan finished with a 3-round total of 233.

Dave Vivian sank a putt on the 54th hole to win the A-flight by a stroke over Bill Smith. Jean Poutre claimed the B-flight championship, C.J. Madonna won the C-flight by a shot and Chris Boslet was victorious in the senior flight.

The women's championship, a 2-day event with full handicap, was won by Carolee Smith, who netted a 137. She ousted Kathleen Everleth and Cheryl Dodds by a stroke.
