SARANAC — Jon Brown scored his second hat trick in as many nights, Saturday, to send the Saranac Chiefs on to a 4-1 victory over the Willsboro Warriors in the championship game of the Saranac Early Bird boys' soccer tournament.
Brown, who had three goals in Friday's 5-1 win over Saranac Lake, scored twice in the first half with his unassisted tally at 17:04 snapping a 1-all tie. Brown closed out the scoring with less than four minutes to play.
Brandon Terry also scored for the Chiefs on a direct kick from 33 yards out 32:43 into the second half. The goal gave Saranac a two-goal lead and thwarted Willsboro's comeback bid.
"Willsboro is a very good team. The game was much closer than the score indicates," Saranac Coach Ken Terry said.
"I thought our defense was consistently strong the whole game."
Saranac held a 13-11 edge in shots with Bill Badger posting 10 saves for the victory. Cody Sayward stopped eight in goal for Willsboro.
Clay Sherman scored for the Warriors at 9:56 of the first half to answer Brown's first goal.
Sherman, Patrick Wells, Dakota Sayward and Alex Hamel all had strong games for Willsboro.

NAC bounces back
The Northern Adirondack Bobcats rebounded from Friday's loss to Willsboro to defeat Saranac Lake 3-0 in the consolation game.
Newcomers Tyler Martin and Justin Kellett scored in the first half and senior Nick Gero tallied late in the second to account for the NAC goals.
Tyler Mesec made six saves in goal for the shutout while Ricky Schmidt had 22 saves for Saranac Lake.
"Their keeper (Schmidt) played well. He made several outstanding saves," NAC Coach Pete Kowalowski said.
Stephen Trudo, Jon Lashway and David Miller played well at halfback for the Bobcats while Craig Gardner and Josh Powers starred at fullback.
"We played much better, but we just have to improve our coverage," Kowalowski continued. "We played Willsboro pretty much straight up Friday, but we broke down defensively three times."
