OGDENSBURG — The Franklin Academy Huskies dropped a dismal 40-6 loss to the Ogdensburg Friday night in their Northern Football Conference opener.
The Blue Devils took advantage of several Malone physical and mental errors to go out to a 34-0 halftime lead. Also, Malone quarterback Jordan Cosgrove was injured.
With just seconds left in the first half after the Blue Devils scored their fourth touchdown of the second quarter, Malone senior halfback Darren Fullum was hit hard on a kickoff return and was eventually taken off by stretcher.
One of several poor plays in the punting game led to the first OFA touchdown in the opening quarter as they received the ball on the Huskies 25.
Jarred Morrow, who went 6-for-7 for 133 yards in one half of play, found Joel King for a nine yards to cap a 4-play drive.
Morrow tossed another touchdown pass in the second quarter on a 43-yard catch and run by Owen Luckie just minutes after he had scored on a 8-yard run of his own.
Senior running back Kris Folsom scored twice in the second quarter — a 2-yard run early in the quarter that was set up by a Huskie fumble and a 1-yard run with just 13 seconds left.
The Blue Devils got their final score on the first play of the third quarter on a 80-yard kickoff return by Eric Barr. Barr also had four extra point kicks on the night.
With both teams going to their bench, Malone finally got on the scoreboard with 2:46 remaining as junior Zac Peck hauled in a 8-yard pass from sophomore Mitch Gallagher.
Also Friday night, Massena defeated St. Lawrence, 21-2. Malone entertains Saranac Lake next week while OFA plays Peru.
