Old Time Butcher Block wins Malone title

MALONE — Old Time Butcher Block took two games from Paragon Promotions Friday night to win the Malone Womens Softball league playoffs. Game one was 3-2 while the second game was 2-1 in ten innings. Camy Poirier outdueled Jess King on the mound in both games.

FC U6, U8 program registration open

Northern Devils final tryouts Sept. 5

16U baseball to face Montreal today

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh 16U baseball team will face the Montreal Rockies in a doubleheader today at noon at South Acres.

Meet the CCC women event scheduled

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau and the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will sponsor a "Meet the Cougar Women's Soccer Team" event on Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Clinton Community College Soccer field. The game starts at 4 p.m. and features the Clinton Community College women taking on North Country Community College.

Youths attending these games are encouraged to wear their team jersey. The first 50 youths to attend the game with their team jersey will receive a free souvenir. Youths must be accompanied by an adult.

YMCA junior soccer registration continues

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA is offering a soccer league for boys & girls ages 3½-7 yrs. The program is divided into two divisions: Kickers (3½ -5) and Dribblers (6-7).

The instructional league is designed to be a fun, family activity, while learning how to play soccer. You may register at the YMCA or online any time until Sept. 13. The program will begin on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. The practice/games will run for 60-90 minutes on Saturday mornings only. Games/practices are held at the Bailey Ave. fields. All children will receive a tee-shirt uniform and trophy.

Volunteer coaches are needed for this rewarding program.

Saranac Lanes scratch league meeting set

SARANAC LAKE — Romano's Saranac Lanes will hold a meeting for its Saturday Night 4-Man Scratch League on Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. Anyone interested should attend the meeting.

The season will begin Saturday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. The total purse will be $30,000, based on eight teams.

Bobsled, skeleton leaders in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Dignitaries from 32 countries, all representing the winter Olympic sports of bobsled and skeleton, will be in Lake Placid, Sept. 9-12, participating in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation's (FIBT) annual Congress.

The event is being co-hosted by the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) and the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (USBSF).

In addition to the representatives from bobsled and skeleton federations, worldwide, the Congress will also bring together members from both the United States and Russian Olympic Committees.

More than 130 people are expected to attend the event, which will also include representatives from the 2014 Sochi Olympic Organizing Committee, the 2012 Innsbruck, Austria Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee, and from several of the tracks throughout the world.

The FIBT's annual Congress' agenda includes the selection of the FIBT's executive board (2010-2014), a race World Cup organizers meeting and the adoption of rule changes that will be enforced for the next four years, leading up to the Sochi Olympic Winter Games, February 2014.

Many of these same countries, along with their best athletes, will be returning to Lake Placid later this winter when ORDA and the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex plays host to World Cup bobsled and skeleton racing.

The event, slated for Dec. 13-19, is expected to feature several athletes who competed in last February's Olympic Winter Games, held in Vancouver, Canada.

The Lake Placid event is the fourth stop on the seven-race tour. Athletes will compete in men's two-man and four-man bobsled, women's two-man bobsled, men's skeleton and women's skeleton.
