Dan Santa records first ace

PLATTSBURGH — Dan Santa recorded his first hole-in-one Wednesday at Bluff Point Golf Course.

Santa used a 6-iron on hole No. 10, a 169-yard shot.

Witnesses included father Bill Santa, Carl King and Ken Duquette.

Pete Petrie gets first hole-in-one

AUSABLE FORKS — Pete Petrie scored his first hole-in-one Monday while playing the AuSable Valley Golf Course. He used a 5 iron to sink his tee shot on the 168-yard ninth hole. Shane Martin witnessed the ace.

Pepper wins Barracks Match Play title

PLATTSBURGH — Bud Pepper defeated Larry Brown 2 and 1 to win the 16th-Annual Summer-long Match Play Championship at The Barracks Golf Course.

Pepper, 82, sailed through the competition, beating Dave Vivian, Matt Davis, Jon Poissant, Bob Zuckerman and Josh Hlaing to reach the final.

P-R sports coaching forms due today

PLATTSBURGH — Saturday is the final day to receive Press-Republican fall sports coaching forms in order to be included in previews for their respective sports.

Completed forms can be dropped off at the Press-Republican, faxed to 561-3362 or e-mailed to sports@pressrepublican.com.

Benefit softball tourney this weekend

WEST PLATTSBURGH — The 2nd-Annual Old School Softball Tournament, which will benefit the Stephanie and Courtney Memorial Scholarship Fund, will be held Saturday and Sunday at American Legion Post 1619.

This is a one-pitch tournament using wooden bats. There will be food, entertainment and an auction. There will also be a balloon ceremony on Saturday at noon.

First-round pairing are as follows:

Field 1

10 a.m.- Nova Bus vs. Mister Modular

11 a.m.- Handy Dan D. Home Improvement vs.. Shumway Insurance

12:30 p.m.- E & E Construction vs. Knight Cadillac

TGIF Senior League needs bowlers

PLATTSBURGH — The TGIF Senior League needs bowlers ages 50 and over for its league at North Bowl Lanes. The league meets Fridays at 12:30 pm. with the season starting on Sept. 10.

Friends of NCCS golf tourney Sept. 12

ROUSES POINT — The Second-Annual Friends of NCCS Golf Tournament, a four-man scramble, will be held Sept. 12 at the North Country Golf Club in Rouses Point.

All teams must have a minimum of 40 handicap altogether to enter. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as prizes for men's and women's longest drive and closest to the pin. Parker Chevrolet is a major sponsor of the event and will be donating a car for a hole-in-one grand prize.

Cost is $70 for non-members and $50 for members with the cost including cart and dinner following the tournament. Register at the North Country Golf Club pro shop.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the boys' and girls' golf team and the girls' basketball team at NCCS.

Peru ladies to begin bowling Sept. 7

PERU — The Peru Ladies Bowling League will start the season Tuesday, Sept. 7, with a meeting at 9:30 a.m. and bowling at 10 a.m. at North Bowl Lanes. Bowlers are needed as regulars and subs.

NCGC holds Glow Ball tournament

ROUSES POINT — The North Country Golf Club held its annual Glow Ball Tournament recently. Teams of four played 9 holes scramble in the daylight and finished with 9 holes scramble at Night using Glow in the dark golf balls.

Bollt, Duprey lead weekly bike trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Erik Bollt placed first in the weekly 10-mile bicycle time trial Wednesday with a time of 21:45, followed by Doug Chase, 23:59, and Jason Amoriell, 24:04.

Mary Duprey was the first place female, posting a time of 24:22, followed by Lynne Murray, 26:21. Scott Woodward was the lone participant in the 25-mile event, posting a time of 58:26. Fifteen cyclists participated in the 16th event of the season under hot temperatures and south west winds.

The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign up starts around 5:30 p.m. with the first rider going out at 6 p.m. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30-5:45.

Bobsled, skeleton leaders in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Dignitaries from 32 countries, all representing the winter Olympic sports of bobsled and skeleton, will be in Lake Placid, Sept. 9-12, participating in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation's (FIBT) annual Congress. The event is being co-hosted by the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) and the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (USBSF).

In addition to the representatives from bobsled and skeleton federations, worldwide, the Congress will also bring together members from both the United States and Russian Olympic Committees.

More than 130 people are expected to attend the event, which will also include representatives from the 2014 Sochi Olympic Organizing Committee, the 2012 Innsbruck, Austria Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee, and from several of the tracks throughout the world.

The FIBT's annual Congress' agenda includes the selection of the FIBT's executive board (2010-2014), a race World Cup organizers meeting and the adoption of rule changes that will be enforced for the next four years, leading up to the Sochi Olympic Winter Games, February 2014.

Many of these same countries, along with their best athletes, will be returning to Lake Placid later this winter when ORDA and the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex plays host to World Cup bobsled and skeleton racing. The event, slated for Dec. 13-19, is expected to feature several athletes who competed in last February's Olympic Winter Games, held in Vancouver, Canada.

The Lake Placid event is the fourth stop on the seven-race tour. Athletes will compete in men's two-man and four-man bobsled, women's two-man bobsled, men's skeleton and women's skeleton.
