CCC men lose home opener

PLATTSBURGH — Gafar Moumouni scored two goals in the final five minutes of the first half and Fulton-Montgomery Community College spoiled Clinton's Community College's men's soccer home opener Thursday with a 5-2 win.

Eric Lucas gave the visitors the lead with 33:00 gone in the opening half and Moumouni tallied at 40:00 and then at 43:00 to make it 3-0.

"We beat ourselves — we didn't come out with any intensity," said Clinton C.C. head coach Zac Eppler. "They were beating us to the 50-50 balls and we have to do a better job with our spacing."

The second half, however, was much better for the Cougars.

Kyle Kirk and Ricky Lee scored goals for Clinton C.C. to bring the Cougars to within two goals on two occasions.

But, Joe Mecca and Danilo Cortez answered for Fulton-Montgomery.

"We came out strong in the second half," Eppler said. "We played like we weren't down, 3-0, and it was good to see.

"It's too bad we didn't start out the game like that."

Sam Mignon made seven saves in net for the visitors and Justin LaVarnway nine stops for the Cougars, who were outshot, 14-9.

The Cougars, who are 0-3 on the season, return to the road this weekend for games at Cayuga Community College on Saturday and Herkimer Community College on Sunday.
