Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

Malone returns strong leaders

MALONE — The Malone football team won the Section VII/X Class A title last year while finishing with a winning record for the first time since 2005.

The Huskies lost some key players, like starting quarterback Jake Gravel, but have strong leadership from captains Jordan Cosgrove, Brian Doe and Sam Moore.

"This team is playing hard together — real good intensity," coach Greg Marshall said.

Cosgrove will take the reigns at starting quarterback, with sophomore Mitchell Gallagher looking to see time at quarterback, tight end and defense.

In limited action last season, Cosgrove completed 11-of-22 for two touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Huskies will have an experienced backfield with returnees Brian Doe, Taylor Hilyard, and Jason Stepnoski. Doe was second on the team in rushing with 427, while Hilyard recorded 193 and Stepnoski 100. Doe and Hilyard each scored four touchdowns on the ground.

Hilyard also led the team in receiving yards with 197.

Sam Moore, Andrew Poupore and Brandon LaVoie return to a line that averages 250-260-pounds each.

"We have a very good group of kids back from last year — very hard working, team oriented," assistant coach Cory West said. "I'm looking forward to working with these kids.

"This group has had a great preseason."
