Brad Bowman gets third ace of season

PLATTSBURGH — Brad Bowman registered his third hole-in-one of the season Tuesday during Clinton Correctional Facilities League play at Bluff Point Golf Resort.

Bowman used a 5 iron on the 178-yard 16th hole. Al Durkee and Dan Lamere witnessed the ace.

PHS sports meeting tonight cancelled

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh High School meeting tonight for parents, athletes and coaches has been cancelled due to some issues regarding the senior-high auditorium.

Information for a make-up time will be forthcoming. The athletic department apologizes for any inconvenience.

WIRY to air Chazy-PHS soccer opener

CHAZY — The reigning New York State Class D champion Chazy Eagles will open their season Thursday in the Frankie Garrow Memorial Soccer Tournament, taking on perennial power Plattsburgh High at 7 p.m. at George Brendler Field.

The contest will be aired on WIRY-AM, 1340, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. Joey Trombley and Joe Poissant will do the play-by-play and commentary.

In the opener at 5 p.m., Canton will take on Beekmantown. The consolation and championship games will be Saturday, at 5 and 7 p.m.

Breen ties for 7th in stroke-play tourney

SCHENECTADY — Ian Breen finished in a four-way tie for seventh place Tuesday in the 66th Northeastern New York PGA Stroke Play Championship at the Edison Club. The former Saranac Lake standout had rounds of 75 and 73 for a 36-hole score of 148. He earned $562.50.

Frank Mellet, Breen's fellow pro at Colonie Golf and Country Club, won the event with a 70-71—141, picking up $2,300.

Breen also won a skin in Round 1 on Monday, with a 3 on the first hole. It was worth $193.33.

Mountain Lake Triathlon set for Sept. 18

KEESEVILLE — The 12th-Annual Mountain Lake Services Triathlon will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, starting at 9 a.m. from Camp Whippoorwill on the Frontage Road in Keeseville. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the camp.

The triathlon includes a paddling leg as well as running and biking. There will be an iron course and a recreation course with individual categories as well as team.

Sandra Lushia Memorial Ride Sept. 18

PLATTSBURGH — The Second-Annual Sandra M. Lushia Memorial Bike Ride will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, starting at 10 a.m. from the Clinton Community College Alumni Cottage.

Proceeds will help establish the Sandra Lushia Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Participants can bike, skate, walk or jog from the CCC campus down Plattsburgh's Heritage Trail to the Crete Memorial Civic Center or use the historic Bluff Point trails.

The cost for registration is $10 per person or $20 per family and includes a barbecue, raffle of a bike from Maui North, face painting, refreshments, a bike demonstration and more.

Bowling leagues have openings

PLATTSBURGH — The City Mixed League on Sunday night at North Bowl Lanes and the Monday Women's Handicap League have openings for the 2010-11 season. Both leagues start at 7 p.m.

The mixed league is open to any combination while the Monday league is for 3-woman teams.

Chase, Murray top weekly bike trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Doug Chase and Lynne Murray placed first in the 10-mile event last week in the weekly bicycle time trials. Chase finished in 23:16, followed by Jeff Krywanczyk in at 24:14, Jason Amoriell and Ashton Momot tied for 3rd at 24:20.

Murray was the first female, in 26:25, followed by Alicia Chase, 27:52, and Sabine Amoriell, 28:42.

The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign-up starts around 5:30 p.m. with the first rider going out at 6 p.m. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30-5:45.

Polo match scheduled for Saturday

WESTPORT — A polo match featuring the Adirondack Polo Club vs. Sugarbush will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., in Westport. It will benefit the Ronald McDonald House charities.

Lady Eagles hockey to host golf tourney

ROUSES POINT — The Chazy Lady Eagles Varsity Hockey Tournament will be held Sept. 26 at North Country Golf Club with a noon shotgun start.

Entry fee is $40 for members not needing a cart, $50 for members needing a cart, and $65 for non-members cart included. All entry fees include a buffet dinner following the tournament. Make checks payable to Lady Eagles Hockey. The deadline is Sept. 22.

PFC Soccer holding open registration

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh FC Soccer Club announces open registration for its 2010 Fall U6 and U8 Development Program. Interested families may register by mail or online at www.plattsburghfc.com.

Registration forms are available on the website with the fee $75.

There will be six sessions on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. at West End Park on Sandra Ave. in the city. Session dates are preliminarly set for Sept. 11 and 18, and Oct. 2, 16, 23 and 30.
