10 YEARS AGO (2000)
Northern Adirondack's Chris Trombley wins a state wrestling championship at 125 pounds.

Plattsburgh State's Chris Verkey (55-meter hurdles) and Corey Davidson (800 meters) win ECAC Championships in indoor track.

Cliff Conners strikes again, getting his second straight game-winner in overtime as PHS defeats Pelham 4-3 to reach the Final Four in boys' hockey. Matt Dickson's goal at 4:16 of overtime gives Seton Catholic a 2-1 win over Fairport and a berth in the Final Four.

Tupper Lake's Dave Bedore wins the Class B shot put and Seton Catholic's Jason Jabaut the 1,600-meter run at the state indoor track & field championships.

Westport's Dorothy Albright reaches 1,000 points for her career in a 62-53 loss to PHS in the Tournament of Champions.

20 YEARS AGO (1990)
Plattsburgh High's Jason Aaron takes 3 firsts and sets 8 records in the North Country Swimming & Diving Championships.

Malone's Chad Lawrence finishes second in the 1,600 meters at the state indoor track & field championships.

Mary Rickson scores 14 points to lead Seton Catholic to a 46-38 win over Northeastern Clinton in the Section VII Class B girls' final.

Lynn Baker nets 15, Meegan Wood adds 13 and Lori Nixon is the defensive standout as AuSable Valley beats Saranac 47-43 to win the Class C crown, the Patriots' first girls sectional basketball title.

Westport makes it 2 straight with a 61-38 win over Chazy. Julie Moore scores 23 and Tina Evens, 19, for the Eagles.

Mike Bedworth's buzzer-beater gives Seton Catholic a 72-70 win over PHS and the boys' Class B crown.

Rob Durgan scores 16 and Tim Bortnick, 14, as AuSable Valley tops Saranac 53-48 for the Class C championship.

John Schiavoni tallies 18 points as Wells whips Westport 91-53 for its fourth straight Class D title.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Craig Sanders scores 16 points and Darin Rathbun, 11, while Jack Hills limits Shane Parliament to 8 points in Ticonderoga's 53-45 win over Saranac for the Section VII Class C basketball title.

Trina Angevine scores 21 points and grabs 18 rebounds while Lynne Esposito adds 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead Peru to a 52-37 win over NCCS and a Class B repeat.

Dan Manning claims 3 firsts as PHS wins its third straight regional swim title and sixth straight SectionVII crown. B.J. Bergevin and Art LaMarche are double winners.

Andy Guay scores 19 points and Gordie Lefebvre, 14, as NCCS upsets PHS 53-51 in overtime to win the Class B crown.

30 YEARS AGO (1980)
Steve Rolich scores 3 goals and John Quinn and Steve Lapham each get 2 as St John's defeats Northeastern Clinton 10-3 for its fourth straight Section VII hockey title.

Jim Patterson scores a pair and Andy Preston adds a goal while Guy Conklin makes 42 saves as Lake Placid blanks Massena 3-0 in the Section X Class A final. Lake Placid then goes on to defeat St. John's 4-1. Salmon River tops NCCS 5-2 in the B Division quarterfinal.

Rich Reynolds nets 19 points, John Steffy adds 10 with 8 rebounds, Ed McCallister grabs 13 rebounds and Jamie Douglass tosses in 14 as AuSable Valley tops PHS 62-58 for the CVAC crown.

Linda Ryan scores 20 points and collects 14 rebounds to lead Saranac to a 57-31 win over NCCS in the CVAC girls' final.

John Shannon and Mike Maguire of Malone lead the Section X swimmers past Section VII in regionals. Alan Goldman and Scott Doran of PHS take firsts for Section VII.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)
Kevin Bouyea tallies 27 points, Charlie Shatraw adds 21 and Jim Chilton, 13, as Ellenburg shocks Moriah 73-72 in a Section VII Class A quarterfinal contest. Jim McLean nets 19 and Jim Slattery, 18, for the Vikings.

Tom Ducatte scores 19 points to lead PHS past Peru 53-51 in a Class A semifinal.

Dwayne Floyd (20) and Gregg Redmond (18) lead Westport over Elizabethtown-Lewis 72-64 in the Class B semifinals.

Ron Rabideau scores 17 points and Larry LaValley, 14, for Mooers in a 57-52 win over discipline-wracked Willsboro in a Class B semifinal.

50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Jim Layhee scores 22 points and Jeff Layhee, 15, as Saranac tops Dannemora 63-55 to win the CCIL crown.

Chris Greer and Tom McFadden each tally 17 points as St. John's downs MAI 63-46 to win the North Country Catholic League championship.

Tom McGibbon fires in 32 points as Crown Point nips Port Henry 71-70. Jerry Shpur scores 23 for the Porters.

Jack Glasgow scores 17 points to spark Beekmantown to a 77-47 win over AuSable Forks in a Class A playoff game. Jim Fitzsimmons nets 25 in a losing cause.

John Fordham scores 21 to send Plattsburgh High to a 61-55 win over Lake Placid. Greenfield scores 24 for the Bombers.

60 YEARS AGO (1950)
John Longware leads the Ithaca College freshmen in scoring, averaging 18 points a game.

Bob Carpenter scores 17 points as Plattsburgh State ends unbeaten Oneonta's 19-game winning streak with a 67-62 victory.

Hal McCready scores 23 points and Fred Dealey, 11, to lead PHS to a 62-48 win over Lake Placid. Joe Edgley nets 16 for Placid.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)
Willy Dupuis scores 21 points as Port Henry clinches the CVL title with a 46-16 win over Plattsburgh High.

Joe Tolosky nets 13 to lead unbeaten Lyon Mountain over Altona 32-26.

Bill Purick of Plattsburgh defeats Harry Madison of Montreal 2 out of 3 falls to win the heavyweight wrestling feature before 1,800 fans at the Plattsburgh Barracks.

Paul Kirby scores 21 points and Joe Doucette, 18, as BFD tops Morrisonville 52-49 to win the YMCA City Basketball League title. Bob Bouyea scores 18 in a losing effort.
