CROWN POINT — Westport's 1-2 combination of Bo McKinley and Nathan Gay was too much for Willsboro Friday night.
McKinley poured in 38 points and Gay followed with 23 points, 15 rebounds and five assists to power the Eagles to a 72-62 victory in the overall Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys' basketball championship game.
Westport (15-2 overall) held a 37-32 lead at the half and then went on a 25-9 run in the third quarter, with McKinley scoring 12 points and Gay, eight.
"Our intensity picked up in the third quarter and we tightened it up defensively," said Westport coach Brad Rascoe. "We also did a better job playing team ball."
The Eagles took a 62-41 lead into the fourth before the Warriors closed the final margin to 10.
"We had a lapse in the fourth," Rascoe said.
Alex Hamel led Willsboro with 22 points and Lucas Strong followed with 15.
"Both Hamel and Strong played well for them," Rascoe said.
It marked the third win for Westport over Willsboro this season.
