Hooper leads Lions over Bobcats in OT

ELIZABETHTOWN — Brody Hooper’s shot from 20 yards was low and hard, and it trickled into the net as Elizabethtown-Lewis beat Northern Adirondack 2-1 in overtime.

The Lions pounced on the board first when Charlie Huttig headed in the ball off a corner kick at 24:19 of the first half. Elizabethtown-Lewis held onto the lead for most of the game, but Northern Adirondack’s Nolan Ferguson scored the equalizer from Scott Kellett with just under five minutes left in the game.

Less than two minutes into overtime, Hooper ended the game with an unassisted goal for the Lions.

“It was a great shot and an even better save,” Elizabethtown-Lewis coach Paul Buehler said. “The ball just squirted through the keeper’s hands and went in.”

Cortland White stopped 15 shots for the Lions while Dan Burger had 17 saves for Northern Adirondack.

“This was an up and down game and one win that we definitely stole,” Buehler said.

WELLS — Five second-half goals and a winner in overtime made for a nail-biting game.

Mike Michienzi scored first for Wells with help from Daniel Poster in the first half.

The pace picked up in the second half as both teams traded the lead. Chicoski extended Wells’ lead at 6:52, with Jake Early assisting.

Crown Point then reeled off three unanswered goals to take the lead. Ten minutes into the half, Wells’ defense committed an own-goal after the team knocked in an attempted clear. Gabe Macey then tied the game off a direct kick. Noah Macey put the Panthers ahead at 28:00 with a helper from Mike Gould. Then Michienzi knotted up the game with just under 10 minutes left in regulation.

Coming into the game, Crown Point coach Don Bishop, Jr. decided to start Gould in net as a replacement for his usual keeper. After the first half, Gould came out and was placed up front.

The move worked as Gould scored the game-winning goal 36 seconds into overtime on a breakaway created by Noah Macey’s lob pass over the Wells defense.

“It was a hard shot that just beat the keeper,” Bishop said. “We fought back, and it worked.”

Gould and Joe Foote combined for seven saves while Ben Grenan stopped nine shots for Wells.

The Chiefs came into the second half with a quick strike from Chistopherson, who floated a shot into the net from 40 yards out just 58 seconds into the half. Spear rounded out his hat trick at 57:32, with Jacob Dick assisting.

“Ian was one of the few players who came out ready to play today,” Peru coach Matt Armstrong said. “We didn’t really embrace the lead, and it almost hurt us.”

PLATTSBURGH — The Eagles scored three second-half goals against the Hornets.

Adam Goldfarb netted two goals for Beekmantown. After a scoreless first half, he laced a shot left-side with help from Austin Burl at 8:35. Ten minutes later, Zach Brockway scored from 25 yards out, and Goldfarb knocked in another goal midway through the half.

“I thought we held a slight advantage for the first half,” Hornets coach Chris LaRose said. “Nick Dodd probably had our best scoring chance in the 25th minute when the ball actually beat their keeper, but they had a back who cleared out the ball.

“Beekmantown’s speed got the best of us in the second half, though.”

Beekmantown keeper Matt LaClair had five saves for the shutout. Plattsburgh’s Dan Mihal collected nine saves in his first career start in net.

“I was very proud of Dan for his first start. I thought he played excellent and made some really good saves,” LaRose said.

Norwood-Norfolk 1, Chateaugay 0

NORWOOD — The Bulldogs outshot the Flyers by a 7-2 margin but had nothing to show for it in a Northern Athletic Conference loss.

“In three games we’ve given up a goal on 12 (total) shots, and we’re 0-3. We gotta find some offense,” Chateaugay coach Bob Ouimet said.

Zeb Brown scored for Norwood-Norfolk in the 24th minute of the first half. The Flyers didn’t have another shot after that.

The Bulldogs had multiple scoring chances and 15 corner kicks in the game.
