SARANAC LAKE -- The USA 11-12 National Synchronized Swim Team will cap five weeks of training in Saranac Lake with a public exhibition at 2 p.m. Saturday in the North Country Community College pool at the Sparks Athletic Complex. Admission is free.

The talented team of 11- and 12-year-old girls is preparing for the Pan-American Age Group competition to be held Aug. 30-Sept. 5 in Lima, Peru. The Pan Am competition will feature athletes from the Americas, including Aruba, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

The 10 athletes were named to this team at a team trials event held in May in Indianapolis. They are the 10 best in the country in their age group. They are from Arizona, California and Nevada. The team is coached by Julie Thaden, USA National Team Coach since 1993, and Sara Lowe, 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist in synchronized swimming.

The team, which is staying at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center, swims six hours a day and trains an additional one to two hours on land doing strength training, flexibility work and land drilling of their routines.

Optional donations for training expenses will be accepted.
