Junior Cardinals tryouts this weekend
PLATTSBURGH -- The Plattsburgh Junior Cardinals hockey program will hold tryouts for the 2010-11 season on Saturday and Sunday at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center. Players must have a USA Hockey registration number and a release form if not a PYH Junior Cardinal.
The cost is $40 per player, which includes both tryouts. The schedule is: Saturday and Sunday, August 14-15, squirts, 9 a.m.; peewees, 10:15 a.m.; bantams, 11:30 a.m.; U-16, 12:45 p.m.; and U-18, 2 p.m.

CCC has opening for athletic trainer
PLATTSBURGH -- The Clinton Community College Athletic Department has an opening for a part-time Athletic Trainer for the 2010-2011 school year. Responsibilities include athletic training room hours and home game coverage for six intercollegiate athletic teams. Duties will begin in mid-August.

CHAZY -- Chazy Youth Hockey will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Scotts' Rink.
Lake Placid Legion sets golf tourney
LAKE PLACID -- The Annual Lake Placid American Legion Post 326 Open Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Aug. 22, at Craig Wood Golf Course. The format is stroke play, with prizes for gross and net scores for both men and women.
There will be awards for longest drive, closest to the pin and optional skins presented during refreshments and a buffet dinner at the American Legion Home.
Entry fee is $25 for Craig Wood members and $40 for non-members. Call 523-9811 for tee times.
5K run/walk scheduled for Aug. 20
MOOERS FORKS -- A "Run to Remember" 5K fun run/walk will be held at the Lazy Days campsite on August 20. Registration will be held at 6 p.m., with the run/walk at 6:30 p.m.
The registration fees of $10 for individuals and $15 for a family allow the proceeds to go to "Papa's Crew" Walk Team from the Alzheimer's Diseased Assistance Center. For more information, call 493-6020.

Zumba program being offered
PLATTSBURGH -- The Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is sponsoring a new Zumba program for residents of the Town. Instructor Michele Wright will lead folks of all ages through the Zumba moves and on to a fun workout while having a great time.
The classes will be held every Thursday evening at the Town Office building on Banker Road from 6-7 p.m. Each class costs $5 per night and class size is limited to 40 participants. Classes will begin August 26 and continue through December.

Budweiser horseshoe tourney Sunday
WEST PLATTSBURGH -- The 2010 Budweiser Horseshoe Tournament will be held Sunday, Aug. 14 at American Legion Post 1619. Trophies will be offered to the top three finishers as well as cash prizes.
Registration for the draw-partner tournament will be from noon to 1 p.m. with the entry fee $5.

Disc golf tournament to be held
CADYVILLE -- The Town of Plattsburgh and the Clinton County Youth Bureau are co-sponsoring a Disc Golf Tournament for males and females ages 13-21. The tourney is scheduled for Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Cadyville Disc Golf Course.
Participants will be competing in age groups of 13-15, 16-18 and 19-21. There is no charge to enter the tourney and discs will be available for those who need them.
No experience is necessary and everyone is encouraged to come out and give Disc Golf a try. Pre-registration is required by Sept. 9 and the first 25 youth registered will receive a free t-shirt. Call the Youth Bureau, at 565-4750, to register.
Cannonball Fun Run slated for Sept. 11
PLATTSBURGH -- The Sixth-Annual Cannonball Fun Run, consisting of 5K and 10K events and a one-mile run/walk, will be held Sept. 11 on the Base Oval during the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Celebration.
