You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.
SARANAC — The Champlain Valley Athletic Conference has a three-way tie at the top in Division I girls' basketball again.
Northeastern Clinton used a big second half to rally for a 54-43 win over Saranac Tuesday. The Cougars, the Chiefs and the Peru Indians all stand at 12-2 in conference play. Peru travels to Northeastern Clinton on Thursday while Saranac hosts Plattsburgh High.
Katrina Garrand scored 20 points to lead Northeastern Clinton, which trailed by four at halftime. The Cougars outscored the Chiefs 17-9 to pull ahead in the third and then put up 20 in the fourth.
"They played a great second half," Saranac coach Chad Keysor said. "They started scoring from the perimeter."
Northeastern Clinton finished with six 3-pointers.
Rachelle Barcomb hit three triples and totaled 12 points.
"Barcomb had all 12 of her points in the second half. She really stepped it up," Keysor said.
Garrand, who also drained three from long range, had eight points in the fourth quarter.
Chelsey Brooks scored 12 for the Cougars (14-2, 12-2).
Saranac's Megan Bowman led all scorers with 24 points. Katie McCasland tossed in seven for the Chiefs (12-4, 12-2).

PLATTSBURGH — Michelle Taylor and Alexis Coolidge combined for 30 points as the Patriots beat the Knights for Roger Long's 100th win.
Taylor had 16 points and four steals, while Coolidge scored 14 and added five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Kayla Taylor chipped in seven points for the Patriots (11-4, 11-3).
Long, in his seventh season as AuSable Valley's head coach, improved to 100-47 for his career.
Kate Murnane dropped in 20 points for the Knights (8-8, 6-8).
"Kate Murnane had an outstanding game for them, but we held her scoreless in the fourth," Long said. "We grinded out the win."

BEEKMANTOWN — Emily Decker scored 16 as the Indians pulled away from the Eagles in the second quarter.
Peru (12-4, 12-2) outscored Beekmantown 11-3 in the second to take a 23-11 lead into halftime.
"They played a good second quarter to break the game open a little," Beekmantown coach Greg Waters said. "Then they followed that up with a strong fourth quarter."
Alex King had 11 points for the Indians, and Kelly Kezar added nine.
Shannon Passno tossed in 10 to lead the Eagles (5-10, 5-9), and Kayleigh Livsey chipped in seven.

TICONDEROGA — The Blue Bombers kept pace with the Patriots in Div. II, setting up a showdown for Thursday in Clintonville for first place.
Lake Placid (13-3, 11-3) used its height advantage to dominate inside with Cierra Stephenson leading the way with 12 points. Megan Riley chipped in with 11 points.
"They outrebounded us and got two or three shots at the basket," Ticonderoga Coach Shelly Young said. "And they played good defense. They allowed us only one shot."
Sam Diehl scored eight points to lead Ticonderoga (4-10, 4-10).

PLATTSBURGH — Marle Curle, Charisse Abellard and Emily Manchester led a strong effort as the Hornets (6-10, 6-8) took care of the visiting Red Storm (1-12, 1-12).
Curle scored a game-high 17 points and had four steals, Abellard chipped in with 14 points and eight steals while Manchester contributed 13 points to go with nine rebounds.
"It was a good team effort," PHS Coach Sue Wilson said. "We made good decisions with the basketball, ran the floor well and had great defensive pressure."
Jenna DeMarco scored 10 points to lead Saranac Lake.

PORT HENRY — Sophomore Hailey Chapuk turned in one of her best efforts of the season, scoring 11 points while coming up with four assists and three steals in the Vikings' victory.
"Chaput played a nice game," Moriah Coach Steve Pelkey said. "We had nice balance, offensively, and defensively, we played very well. I liked the way we moved our feet tonight."
Hayley Waldron chipped in with 11 points while Brooke Sheffer and Sam Slattery each contributed 11 points. Dana Aurilio pulled down 10 rebounds and Laura Pelkey was credited with three assists.
Ashley King scored eight points for NAC (0-14, 0-14).
