10 YEARS AGO (2000)
Brad Trombley sets the conference career record for victories with his 162nd while Chris Trombley and Mark Smith pick up pivotal wins to help NAC beat Peru 42-21 and retain its CVAC wrestling crown.

Cory Ryan scores 18 points in the second half, rallying PHS to a 67-58 come-from-behind win over Peru that gives the Hornets the CVAC Div. I title. Matt Brunet chips in with 16.

Brian Pelkey scores 22 points to lead Crown Point to an 86-61 win over Willsboro, giving the Panthers the MVAC North title.

Mary Miller scores off a rebound with 5 seconds left in overtime, lifting Seton Catholic to a 47-46 win over Ticonderoga for the CVAC Div. II crown.

Megan Nemier scores 19 and Mackenzie Patnode, 15, as Chateaugay routs Colton-Pierrepont to finish 14-0 in NAC girls' basketball.

Jason Jabaut leads the Seton Catholic boys and Vanessa Garcia the Peru girls to the Section VII indoor track & field championships.

20 YEARS AGO (1990)
The NCAA lists two major violations and seven lesser infractions committed by the Plattsburgh State hockey program during the 1985-86, 86-87 seasons. The infractions involve lodging, meals, loans and use of a car.

Steve Lockwood gets 2 goals and 2 assists in a win over Saranac Lake to set Franklin Academy career hockey records of 47 goals and 53 assists.

Mike Bedworth sinks 2 free throws with 7 seconds to play, giving Seton Catholic a 57-55 come-from-behind win over PHS and the division title.

Travis Carter wins a pivotal match at 138 points to enable unbeaten Saranac to defeat Beekmantown 30-21.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Kathy Clark records 16 blocks in Plattsburgh State's 84-49 win over Russell Sage College.

Jason Strieble scores 9 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as Moriah upsets Ticonderoga 49-48 for the Vikings first series win in five years.

T.J. Cornwright scores 32 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in Elizabethtown-Lewis's 54-31 win over Chazy.

Billy Welch nets 17 points and grabs 18 rebounds while Greg Beck has 15 points and 17 caroms as Schroon Lake tops Dannemora 75-49 to take first in the MVAC.

30 YEARS AGO (1980)
Shirleen Dubuque pours in 25 points as Northeastern Clinton beats Chazy 45-33 to claim the CVAC Div. II title.

Former Saranac standout Patricia Ryan scores 11 points for West Virginia against Pittsburgh in Div. I women's basketball.

Jim McCarty scores 24 points and Jeph Doorey, 16, as Peru spoils PHS's bid for a perfect season with a 74-63 win.

AuSable Valley overcomes Randy Salerno's 30-point game to beat Moriah 63-53 and win the CVAC Div. II crown.

Jim Tyler knocks off 3-time champion Scott Rock of Saranac at 119 and John Tyler (109) is named the Most Outstanding Wrestler as Peru holds off Saranac 198-182 to win the Section VII wrestling championship.

St. John's caps an unbeaten hockey season with a 10-2 rout of PHS. Steve Rolich is the leading scorer with 28 goals, 24 assists.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)
Port Henry's Bob White wins 5 races to dominate snowmobile racing at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.

The unbeaten Champlain Rockets rally from 12 points down to top Mooers 61-50. Dennis Dupere leads Champlain with 16.

Westport beats Willsboro 79-66 in a MVL showdown with 66 fouls. Dwayne Floyd nets 22 and Greg Redmond, 17, for the Eagles.

John Mosher scores 22 points and Tom Clark, 21, as Plattsburgh State defeats Roberts Wesleyan 76-63.



50 YEARS AGO (1960)
George Bridges of Salmon River races 15 laps through mud and slush to win the feature of the World Championship Stock Car Races on Ice at Airborne Speedway.

Bob Garrow scores 32 points, Billy Benson adds 31 and George Kimball, 25, as Nitzi's Profs outscore the Port Henry Hawks 122-108 to take over first place in the Northern New York Basketball League. Norm "Pop" Gates leads the Hawks with 44 while Chuck Devitto adds 23.

Emmett Hargett scores 22 points and Jim Mitchell, 18, to lead the Mineville Miners to a 79-61 win over the Mineville Old-Timers. Paul Mazzotte scores 14 for the Old-Timers and Zig Karkoski, 11.

Eugene Gadway bowls a 300 game, the first perfect score in Plattsburgh since Marty Donovan's 300 in the early 1930s.

Tom McGibbon tallies 43 points in Crown Point's win over Elizabethtown-Lewis.

Saranac's Bill LaPlante scores 32 points, just missing Buck Briquer's single-game school record of 33 set during the 1957-58 season.

60 YEARS AGO (1950)
The Ellenburg Ski Tow, located a mile south of Ellenburg Depot on the Ledgers Corners Road, is operating with the hill offering night skiing on runs ranging from 400 to 900 feet.

Aldrina Lebel of Lake Placid sweeps 4 senior women's races at the New York State Speed Skating Championships. James LaFountain of Lake Colby sets a new meet record in the juvenile boys' 880.

Gary O'Leary scores 12 points in the second half, rallying St. John's to a 44-34 win over MAI.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)
Tuffy Latour and Paul Dupree of Saranac Lake win the AAU 2-man bobsled championships in a snowstorm at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Ivan Brown and Hubert Nye of Keene come in second.

Katherine Dewey, 24-year-old grand-daughter of Melville Dewey, pilots the Lake Placid Sno-Birds 4-man bobsled to the AAU title. Leo and Pat Martin and Lawrence Straight round out the winning team.

Bill Latvis and Ralph Rowley each score 9 points to lead the Plattsburgh Normal School Cardinals to a 32-27 win over the Clinton County Teachers. Dannemora Coach Art Petras scores 8 for the Teachers.
