You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

CANTON — The Saranac girls finished a close second to Canton while two Beekmantown boys set school records Saturday during the Section X Invitational in indoor track & field at St. Lawrence University.

Saranac scored 85½ points to take second behind Canton, with 94, out of 17 teams in the girls' competition.

The Chiefs claimed four firsts with the 3,200-meter relay team of Maxine Rock, Carmen Leduc, Katie McIntosh and Kaitlyn Facteau running a 10:26.6 to beat runner-up Tupper Lake by six seconds.

Facteau came back to win the 600 meters in 1:43.1 while Robbi Bailey nipped Canton's Marilyn Kitts at the wire to win the 55-meter hurdles in 9.7 seconds.

Trisha Helms easily won the shot put for Saranac with a throw of 34 feet, 1¾ inches.

AuSable Valley's Sidney Flint captured the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 2¼ inches.

Tupper Lake's Amanda Moeller raced to victory in the 300-meter dash, winning with a time of 44.7 seconds.

The Malone girls, with Kaylie Lamica second in the 600 and third in the hurdles and the 3,000 meters, placed fourth with 66 points. The Huskies also got a second place from Elissa Finnegan in the shot put and a second in the 1,600-meter relay.

Malone tallied 66 points to beat out Soth Jefferson by nine to win the boys' meet. The Huskies did not win an event, but Justin Marlow came in second in the 600 and third in the hurdles. Connor Gordon and Corey LaMere finished third and sixth in the 1,600 meters and Mike Perry, fourth in the 300 dash. LaMere also took second in the 3,000 meters with Justin Marlow, Perry, Chris Picaro and Dave Aguon third in the 800 relay.

Beekmantown distance aces Adam Shearer and Brendan Courneene won in school-record times. Shearer took the 1,600 in 4:36.6, just beating out Ticonderoga's Jay Berube by 1.7 seconds while Courneene captured the 1,000 in 2:40.6, out-running Tupper Lake's Charlie Beaudette, who was second in 2:49.5.

Seton athletes
in Albany

Seton Catholic's Anna Rabideau and Michael Champagne both competed this past weekend at the Great Dane Games held at the University at Albany. Champagne was fourth in the 1,600 meters in 4:30.85. Rabideau also came in fourth with a personal-record of 10:52.80.
