MINNEAPOLIS -- The Plattsburgh State men remained atop the U.S. College Hockey Online poll for Div. III hockey while the Cardinal women held onto the second spot.
Bob Emery's Cardinals, who finished first-semester play 9-0-2, drew 17 of 20 first-place votes to pick up 295 points. Wisconsin-Superior accounted for the other three votes and actually gained three points to 283, cutting Plattsburgh's lead to 12 points.
There was no change in the top five spots with Oswego climbing one from seventh to sixth. Wisconsin-Stout, with its big victory over defending national champion St. Norbert, made a big move, from 12th to seventh this week while St. Scholastic jumped from 15th to ninth. Norwich tumbled six places to 12th.
Kevin Houle's Cardinals gained three first-place votes over last week, giving them six and 141 points. But Amherst jumped from fourth to first with nine votes and 143 points.
Elmira held down third while Middlebury, 0-1-1 on the week, fell from first to fourth.
The Plattsburgh State men are idle until Jan. 2-3 when they will host the Cardinal Classic. The women are off until Jan. 3-4 when they will play in the Scranton (Pa.) Tournament.
