Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

10 YEARS AGO (1998)
Dorothy Albright scores 26 points while Christy Mueller and Angel Haynes hit for 13 apiece as Peru beats Massena 65-43 in the final of the Peru Tip-off Tournament.

Mike Castine nets 25 points to lead Northeastern Clinton to a 64-59 win over Malone in the NAC Bobcat Shootout final. Ryan Childs leads the Huskies with 18.

MacKenzie Patnode scores 14 points to surpass Kelly Barnes as the all-time leading scorer in Chateaugay girls' basketball with 1,065 points.

Jason Woodard scores 18 points, Mike LaVallie adds 12 with 14 rebounds and Jeremy Fish collects 14 points and 10 rebounds as Ticonderoga tops AuSable Valley 59-46 in the Ti Tip-Off final. Shaun LaBounty leads the Patriots with 17 points.

20 YEARS AGO (1988)
Jessica Covey scores 19 points and teams with Meg Mitchell to control the boards for Beekmantown in a 44-27 win over Malone. Tara Breen and Missy Kirby each score 7 for the Huskies.

Mike Leonard and Chris O'Connor each score 3 goals to lead MAI to an 8-2 win in the final of the Cougar hockey Classic.

Sophomore Ronnie Kirk scores 20 points to spark Beekmantown to a 72-60 win over St. John's in the final of the Beekmantown Tip-Off Tournament. Jeremy Dubay nets 30 for the Irish.

Todd Carpenter records 3 pins and Andrew Canning also picks up 3 wins, including 2 by fall, as the Saranac restlers dominate a five-team dual in Vermont.

Chad Dufrane's putback lifts Brushton-Moira to a 69-68 double-overtime win over Malone. Rob Trim scores 29 to lead the Panthers while Jamie Bluteau nets 18 for Malone.



25 YEARS AGO (1983)


Former Peru standout Jack Daly, a record-setting wide receiver at Dartmouth College, is named to the All-Ivy Second Team in football.

Todd Dupell scores 21 second-half points to spark Clinton Community College to an 87-80 win over Vermont Tech.

George Keller scores 18 points and Walt Worth, 11, in Crown Point's 58-46 win over Westport in the final of the Westport Tip-off Tournament. Tom Gates leads the Eagles with 19.

Don Weatherwax rolls a 769 series to break the scratch triple record at Riverside Lanes, setby Dave Richard with a 748 in 1981.

30 YEARS AGO (1978)
Dave Bach scores 2 goals and defenseman Mark Farmer, who averages 35 minutes of ice time in two games, is named MVP as Saranac Lake beats Liverpool 7-1 to win its own hockey tournament.

Kris Mullady scores 8 of his 24 points in the 2 overtimes as Dannemora edges Chateaugay 69-65 to win the NAC basketball tourney. MVP Chris Sullivan scores 35 points in 2 games. Randy Blow scores 22 for Chateaugay and Steve Boyea, 18.

Chris Bourgeois scores 3 goals and Ray Guay picks up 3 assists as St. John's beats Beekmantown 9-0 to win its own tip-off hockey tournament.

40 YEARS AGO (1968)


John Mosher scores 18 points and grabs 13 rebounds to lead Plattsburgh State to a season-opening upset of Central Connecticut 106-94. Don Vanderwerker chips in with 15 points and Jack Hartpence hits for 10.

Pete Vanderbeek scores 27 points to lead Champlain to a 62-41 opening win over Lyon Mountain. Ray Petrashune and Frank Yasment score 11 apiece for the Miners.

Schroon Lake outlasts AuSable Forks 100-98 with Dan Williford and Gary Pitkin scoring 24 each and Bill Banford, 23, for the Wildcats. Daggett nets 39 and Borette, 24, for AuSable.

50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Wendell Barber scores 18 points and Gerald Ducatte, 10, as Beekmantown wins the first game in school history, beating Dannemora 43-42. Earl Couture scores 11 for the Knights.

Ron McGovern scores 22 points while Rick Florin adds 20 with 232 rebounds in Plattsburgh State's 76-56 win over Potsdam. Former Rouses Point standout Bruce Seguin gets 5 points and 5 rebounds in his Cardinal debut.

Sherwood LaPorte scores 18 points to lead Keeseville to a 61-59 win over Saranac. Mike Houlihan leads the Chiefs with 22 while Mike LaPorte tosses in 17.

Joe Brennan tallies 21 points to lead Mineville past Crown Point 73-45. Tom McGibbon scores 16 for the Panthers.

Pat Salerno fires in 40 points and Ed Sprague, 23, as Moriah beats the Peru Faculty 101-58 in town team basketball. Johnny Longware leads Peru with 15.

60 YEARS AGO (1948)
Dick Spelman scores 26 points and Rod LaValley, 16, as Plattsburgh High opens with a 65-38 win over Canajoharie.

Clarence Trudeau scores 20 and Lloyd LaBarge, 16, to lead Ellenburg to a 64-29 win over Mooers. Leland Jabaut has 11 for Mooers.

J. Gijanto scores 13 points in Ticonderoga's 28-22 win over St. John's Academy.

Les Fessette nets 19 points as MAI opens with a 49-44 win over Lyon Mountain. Tolosky leads the Miners with 21.



70 YEARS AGO (1938)
Harriman and Blanchard each score 10 points to spur Ticonderoga to a 28-11 win over MAI. Shorty Navarro leads MAI with 6.

Wing scores 12 points and McCorry, 10, to lead Dannemora, and new coach Archibald Peters, to a 40-17 win over Morrisonville.
