Adams Memorial Turkey Trot Thursday
PERU — The Peru Lions Club will host the 31st-Annual John P. Adams Memorial Turkey Trot on Thursday. Registration for the Thanksgiving Day event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Peru Intermediate School cafeteria, next to the Route 22B playground.
The one-mile fun run/walk will start at 9 a.m., followed by the 5- and 10-kilometer races. Entry fee for the 5K and 10K events is $15 and for the one-mile events, $5.
Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to the top-three finishers. Duffle bags will be given to all participants in the 5K and 10K races. All participants also will be entered in drawings for turkeys, merchandise and other prizes.

Metro Selects win gold in Placid tourney
LAKE PLACID — The USA Metro Selects won the gold medal at the Can-Am Hockey Tournament in Lake Placid the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The Metros, with players from Lake Placid, Plattsburgh and Chazy, finished 5-0 in tournament play.
The players included Greyson Giroux, Todd Heywood, Joseph Goff, Kurtis Olsen, Faith Fell, Paul Fine-Lease, Tess Stanton, Mathew Maggy, Kylie Kroes, Mathew Parent and Hayden King.
The team was coached by Kent Olsen, Richard Giroux, Steve Fell and Richard King. Hayden King participated in the goalie competition and finished first out of the eight goalies.
Skating stars to perform in Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID — Smucker's Stars on Ice, featuring Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen and bronze medalist Jeffrey Buttle, will visit The Olympic Center in Lake Placid Saturday for an 8 p.m. performance which will be recorded and televised nationally on NBC Jan. 4.
Cohen and Buttle will be joined by an outstanding cast of Olympic, World and National Champions including World Champion and six-time U.S. Champion Todd Eldredge, two-time World Bronze Medalist and three-time U.S. Champion Michael Weiss, 1998 Olympic Gold Medalist Ilia Kulik (Russia), and World Champion and two-time Japanese Ladies Champion Yuka Sato.
Also, World Bronze Medalist and three-time U.S. Pair Champion John Zimmerman, six-time Canadian Ladies Champion Jennifer Robinson, two-time Olympic Medalists and three-time World Pair Champions Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao (China), two-time World Silver Medalists and five-time Canadian Dance Champions Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon.
