Edgemont piles up 476 yards of offense and pulls away to a 42-25 win over Saranac Lake in a state Class C football semifinal playoff game in Kingston. Ryan Roberts runs for 140 yards and 2 TDs in a losing cause.
Freshman point guard Allison Vosh scores 16 points to lead Plattsburgh State to a 73-60 win over Ramapo in the final of the Cardinal Classic in women's basketball.
Brad Erbsland comes up with 32 saves as Plattsburgh State beats Elmira 6-3 for its first win in 9 games at the Murray Athletic Center.
Corey Davidson finishes 12th and Julia McLane Canino places 34th as the two Plattsburgh State runners earn All-America honors in cross country.
Seton Catholic junior Jason Jabaut comes in 12th at the NYS Federation Cross-Country Championships.
20 YEARS AGO (1988)
Denfield James scores 29 points and Mike Boulrice adds 18 to lead Clinton Community College to a 94-83 victory over North Country Community College. Jerome Batchelor leads the Saints with 26 points.
Rich Marchessault scores one goal and picks up three assists to lead Clinton Community College to a 5-2 victory over Mohawk Valley CC in men's hockey.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Peggy Corrigan serves 27 points with 5 aces to lead Peru to a 3-1 win over Plattsburgh High in a battle of CVAC unbeatens in girls' volleyball. Eileen Roach, Melina Higgins, Ann Bradford and Kathy Twining also star for Peru.
Tim Derrick places 37th out of 350 runners with a time of 17:03 over the muddy, 3.1-mile course as St. John's becomes the first Section VII team to compete in the Federation cross-country championships.
30 YEARS AGO (1978)
The Valcour Sailing Club presents the Tom Harwood Awards to Bill Rowe for demonstrating the best sailing ability during the 1978 racing season.
Plattsburgh gymnastics and figure-skating standout Karen Jubert, 17, is chosen to skate with the Ice Capades.
Mike Fish scores 22 points and Randy Fish, 17, as Hague scores a come-from-behind 66-61 win over Lake Placid in the Bolton Landing basketball tournament. Nip Rogers leads the Blue Bombers with 23 points while George Stahler chips in with 16.
Norm Bonneau takes over from Frank Shumway as boys' varsity basketball coach at Northeastern Clinton. Shumway has a 277-154 record for 21 seasons in the CCIL and CVAC.
40 YEARS AGO (1968)
Bernard Siskavich scores 26 points, Ray Petrashune pumps in 23 and Paul Harrica chips in with 16 as Lyon Mountain outlasts Willsboro 77-72 in a non-league game. John Drinkwine scores 22 points and Lloyd James, 17, for the Warriors.
Ian Pulrang, Larry Maxwell and Scott Woolman, all competing for the Plattsburgh Swim Club in the 15-17 age group, fare well in AAU competition in Herkimer.
50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Charlie Turek tosses in 13 points to spark Mineville to a 43-28 win over Elizabethtown in basketball. Pete Blackmore leads E'town with 12.
Bob Jarvis nets 20 as Alburg turns back Chazy 54-38, despite Donald Brothers' 17 points and 10 from Bill Clukey.
Johnny Longware fires in 42 points to spur the Peru Faculty to a 97-82 triumph over Willsboro in men's basketball. Rodney Stafford scores 33 for Willsboro.
60 YEARS AGO (1948)
Bob Garrow scores 13 points, Wally Stachowicz adds 10 and Jim Brannigan, 9, as Plattsburgh State Teachers College, coached by Ray James, defeats the Cardinal Alumni 56-32. Jack Baker leads the alumni with 7 points.
Former Plattsburgh High sports standout Bob Parker is awarded a letter at Mount Hermon Prep School where he starred at quarterback.
70 YEARS AGO (1938)
The YMCA Basketball League prepares for another season with Claude Bigelow, Elmer Rowbotham, Harold Tucker, Ezra Alpert, Boynton Grover and Courtney Lawton making up the DeMolay team.
The big-game hunting season ends in New York with 21 fatalities, down from 27 in 1937. There are also 99 injuries.
