BUFFALO -- There was little for Plattsburgh State men's head hockey coach Bob Emery to be unhappy about Friday night.
The unbeaten Cardinals scored five power-play goals and played solid hockey in a 6-1 victory at Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference action.
Riley Hill scored twice for Plattsburgh State, which improved to 6-0 both overall and in SUNYAC play.
"We played really well defensively other than the first hiccup early in the game," said Emery. "Territorially, they didn't have a lot of chances to score and we really took it to them.
"We played a lot of the game in their end and your best defense can be your offense."
Riley Hill gave the Cardinals the lead just 1:25 into the game with a power-play goal, only to have Jason Hill answer for the Bengals (2-4-1, 1-1-1) 24 seconds later.
Riley Hill, however, then put Plattsburgh State back on top, this time for good, with a power-play goal 17:39 into the first.
Phil Farrow got into the scoring act at 1:33 of the second, with the Cardinals skating a man up, to put Plattsburgh State ahead, 3-1, after two.
The Cardinals then broke it open in the third, scoring three times.
C.J. Tozzo tallied with the teams at even strength at 2:47 while Dylan Clarke and Mike Thomson added power-play goals at 4:47 and 16:33, respectively, to finish off the scoring.
"We played smart with the lead," Emery said. "It took us a long time to get that three-goal lead that takes the wind out of your opponent's sails, but I felt we were in control of the game the whole time."
The shots on goal reflected how the game was played as the Cardinals held a commanding 38-14 edge. Bryan Hince made 13 saves for his fourth victory of the season and Travis Moore stopped 32 shots for the Bengals.
Plattsburgh State went five-for-10 on the powerplay and the Bengals were scoreless on four tries.
"Our powerplay is playing well and the results show it," said Emery. "All in all, we got great leadership from our seniors again tonight.
"Still, as a coach, you can always find a few negatives that we need to continue to learn from."
Plattsburgh State plays at Fredonia tonight in a 7 p.m. contest and a four-point weekend would be extremely huge for the Cardinals in the SUNYAC standings. Following this weekend, the Cardinals have only one back-to-back road weekend remaining in conference play.
In other SUNYAC action Friday night, Fredonia played to a 3-all overtime tie with Potsdam; Oswego skated to a 5-0 victory at Geneseo; and Brockport posted a 7-3 home decision over Cortland.
