Spectators' finale at Airborne

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH -- It's last call for novices from the grandstands to try their hand at the Airborne half mile today as spectator races complement the Budweiser Little Guys Triple 50's race card.

The popular one-on-one elimination drags pit pickups against vans, bread trucks, hearses or the family sedan in single lap contests from a standing start. Seat belts, a helmet and perhaps an insurance agent who's being kept in the dark, are the only requirements. Vehicles escape any dents or scratches --most of the time.

Fifty-lap main events for the Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, Keeseville NAPA Auto Parts Warriors and Monster Energy Bombers, which could determine the track champion in each division, headline the program.

The long-distance race will be especially challenging for the four-cylinder Warriors and Bombers, who are accustomed to 15-lap main events.

An earlier than usual 5 p.m. post time is in effect. Gates open at 3 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for children 6-12 and $15 forfamily tickets (two adults, two children).
