Russian baseball team to practice in Placid
LAKE PLACID "" Russia's top baseball team, on tour in the eastern United States, will stop in Lake Placid Wednesday, July 25, to visit the Olympic sites managed by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).
Their itinerary will include a stop at the Wednesday Wet and Wild freestyle show set to occur at the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex at 1 p.m.
The Russians are in the midst of a 20-game schedule designed to prepare the team for the European Championships to be held in September in Barcelona, Spain. They will play Meron's Expos Friday at Chip Cummings Field on the Plattsburgh State campus.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of baseball in Russia. Since 1992, 11 players from the former Soviet Union have signed minor-league baseball contracts to play in the United States. Last year, the Minnesota Twins signed lefthanded pitcher Nikolay Lobanov to a minor-league deal.
The Russians will practice in Lake Placid on Wednesday, July 25, from 2:30""5 p.m. at the North Elba Show Grounds on Rt. 73 outside Lake Placid.
Bush, Osborne win Ti's President's Cup
TICONDEROGA "" Rick Bush Jr. and Linda Osborne captured the President's Cup last week at the Ticonderoga Country Club while Judy Englert, a past club champion, scored an eagle last week.
Bush shot a 65 to beat Fred Shaw by four strokes. Osborne won in a match of cards after finishing tied with Mary Beth Sambrook at 66.
Englert, of South Carolina, scored an eagle on the 12th hole using her driver, a 3 wood and an wedge.
It was witnessed by her daughter.
B'town youth volleyball camp next week
BEEKMANTOWN "" The Beekmantown Youth Commission will hold a volleyball camp the week of July 31-Aug. 4, from 9-11:30 a.m. It will be at the Town Hall Volleyball Court and will be open to boys and girls ages 9 and up.

Northern Tier continues youth soccer sign-up
CHAMPLAIN "" The Town of Champlain and the villages of Rouses Point and Champlain are conducting final registration for youth soccer. Sign-up will continue until Tuesday, July 31. After that date children will be placed on a waiting list.
The levels are as follows:
Mites: ages 6,7,8 (Born on/after 11/01/98 (Born on/before 10/31/01)
Peewees: ages 9,10,11 (Born on/after 11/01/95 (Born on/before 10/31/98)

Plattsburgh town camps to feature soccer
PLATTSBURGH "" The Town of Plattsburgh's Sport Fun Camps are continuing this week with soccer the featured activity. Each session will be two hours and filled with learning the basics of the activity and then practicing with some friendly competition.
The camps will be held at the following two Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Parks each week for six weeks: Everest Rabideau Park in Cumberland Head, from 9-11 a.m., and at East Morrisonville Recreation Park from noon-2 p.m.
Each week features a different activity. This is a drop-in program so pre-registration is not necessary. All equipment will be provided and there is no charge for any of these camps.

Coed softball tourney slated for Putnam
PUTNAM "" The First-Annual CASA Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 4-5 at the Putnam Ball Field with start time 10 a.m.
It will be a coed tournament hosted by Arielle Vilardo, a Venture Scout, to benefit the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program which advocates for abused and neglected children involved in court proceedings.

ADK chapter lists 2 activities for week

Barracks sets Member-Guest for Aug. 4-5
PLATTSBURGH ""The Barracks Golf Course will hold its annual Member-Guest Tournament, Aug. 4-5 with a men's and women's division. The format will be best-ball net with full handicap on the first day and team scramble with handicap divided by 3 on Day 2.
There will be winners both days and an overall winner on Sunday using the total score from the two days.
The cost of the tournament is $120 per team and includes greens fees and carts for the guest both days, roast beef dinner Saturday night, drinks both days and raffles. Also, a guest and member will have the opportunity to win a $500 discount on a 2008 membership. Overall, there will be more than $2,000 in cash and prizes.

Ti to induct 4 in Hall of Fame
TICONDEROGA "" The Ticonderoga Booster Club will induct four new members Friday, Oct. 5, during halftime of the Sentinels' Homecoming varsity football game.
Also, the undefeated 1960 Sentinel football team will be honored and inducted at this time.
The new inductees are Darren D'Attilio (Class of 1991), Sean McLaughlin (1992), Beth Jzyk (1996) and Susan Pocket-Tucker (1997).
