Athletic camp for teens to begin July 6
PLATTSBURGH — The Wellness Center at PARC will host a weekly athletic camp for athletes, ages 14-18, running from July 6 until Aug. 13. The program allows for four classes per week and is designed to educate and apply basic to advanced training techniques in order to enhance athletic performance in sports.

Free fishing this weekend in New York
ALBANY — This weekend, June 27 and 28, anglers and potential anglers will be able to fish in New York's lakes, rivers and streams without a state license, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) reminds people.

In addition, DEC's regional offices will sponsor free fishing events throughout the warm-weather months. Additional details can be found at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27123.html on the DEC website.

ADK chapter opens 3 hikes to public
PLATTSBURGH — The Algonquin Chapter invites the public to join its members on three hikes — two for the 46er aspirant and one for the more casual hiker.

On Thursday, July 2, Elie Bijou will lead a hike up Mt. Marcy, at 5,344 feet, New York State's highest peak. The round trip is 15 miles. It is a physically demanding hike. Bring lunch, snacks and lots of water. Leader: Elie Bijou, 518-873-2119, to register and for details.

On Friday, July 3, join the ADK chapter for a climb up Hurricane Mt. from Crow Clearing. It is a 6-mile round-trip hike of moderate ascent with great summit views. Bring lunch and drinks. Call by Wed., July 1. Leader: Anne Bailey, 561 -5794.

On Sunday, July 5, Elie Bijou will lead a hike up Haystack Mountain. This is another 46er and physically strenuous. Interested participants should call for details and to register. Anticipated meeting time is 7 a.m. and hike length should be around 12 hours. Leader: Elie Bijou, 873-2119 or 523-6434.Note change of date.

PFC U-16 girls win Nordic Cup tourney
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh FC girls U-16 team went 5-0-1 on the weekend to win the Nordic Cup soccer tournament. The team beat Nirvana 93 Lady Spartins 1-0, tied Far Post U-16 2-2, beat Bethleham Lady Nights 2-1 and defeated Blackwatch Thistle 1-0 to advance to the championship game. They beat Nordic Premere U-16, 2-0 in the finals.

The U-16 team, coached by Karen Waterbury, includes Cherise Abellard, Colleen Bradley, Stephanie Clookey, Kirsten Doran, Sidney Flint, Amanda Hamilton, Jessica Huber, Cammey Keyser, Kristen Koktowski, Caitlyn Lapier, Sara LoTemplio, Taylor Manor, Katherine Tooke, Elizabeth Uliva and Bailey Waterbury.

Little League Futures' Game Monday
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Little League's seven-year-old ballplayers will be featured in a Futures' Game Monday, June 29, at 6 p.m. at South Platt's Minor Field.

All players who were considered seven-year-olds from the league's eight teams this season are invited to participate. Players are asked to arrive in uniform at 5:30 p.m. and teams will be divided at 5:45 p.m. If you have already turned in your uniform you may borrow one to use for the game.

'69 NYS Legion champs to be honored
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Mariners Baseball Association will host Turning Back the Clock Weekend Saturday and Sunday, paying tribute to the 1969 New York State American Legion Junior Baseball Champions from Plattsburgh Post 20.

The state champions will be honored between games Sunday when the Mariners host the Champlain Edge at Chip Cummings Field. The doubleheader will begin at noon.

Also, Gary Duquette, owner of the Fourth Ward on Montcalm Avenue and a former Post 20 player, will host a reception for the 1969 state champions on Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. at his establishment. All former Legion players, coaches, Legionaires and the public are invited.

Saranac to host basketball camps
SARANAC — The FUNdaMENTAL Basketball Camps for boys and girls will be returning to Saranac this summer. The boys' camps will run from June 29-July 3 and July 13-17. There are still a few openings left. The girls' camps will run from July 6-10 and July 20-24.

TC Skills Camp has openings
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State Men's Basketball coaches Tom Curle and Cameron Conover will host the TC Skills Boys Basketball Camp for ages 8-17 June 29-July 2 at Memorial Hall on the Plattsburgh State Campus. The camp runs Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Chazy soccer camp open to walk-ons
CHAZY — The Chazy Summer Soccer Camp for boys and girls ages 4-15 will be held June 29-July 3 at Chazy Central Rural School. The sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Tennis singles tourney July 10-12
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Tennis Association (NCTA) will holding its annual singles tournament the weekend of July 10-12. Competition will be held in four divisions: men's open, women's open, boys 17 and under, girls 17 and under.

There will be a consolation round in all four brackets, so every participant is guaranteed two matches. Deadline for entry is July 7 at noon.

North Country Baseball Camp dates set
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Baseball Camp will be held July 14-18 at Laphams Mills Park in Peru. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m.-noon on Friday. Potsdam softball day camp July 6-10
POTSDAM — SUNY Potsdam softball coach Shannon Dillabough will head up the inaugural Softball Day Camp July 6-10 at the SUNY Potsdam Softball Field. Softball players from across the North Country will join the Potsdam Bears coaching staff and players in this day camp for girls entering grades 7-11 this fall.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The first part of the day will focus on building specific softball skills such as hitting, fielding and pitching through small group and individual instruction. During the second half of the session, campers will break into teams to play games.

PFC U10 boys go 4-0 in Lakehill soccer
BURNT HILLS — The Plattsburgh FC U10 Boys Premier soccer team finished with a 4-0 record in the Red Division of the Lakehill Father's Day soccer tournament Sunday. The team registered victories over Adirondack SC, Colonie SC, Clifton Park, and Soccer United.

The team, coached by Brian Micheels, includes Gavin Titherington, Trevor Wills, Mitchell Senecal, Keenan Regan, Noah Laporte, Jessy Dick, Alex Puchalski, Mateen Jahanbakhsh, Gavin Giroux, Luc Micheels, Paul Fine-Lease, and Jake Brandmeier.



Soccer United boys finish second in tourney

BALLSTON SPA — The Soccer United U12 boys team placed second in the Lakehill Tournament in Ballston Spa last weekend. They compiled a record of 2-1-1.

The team, coached by Derek Knapp, includes Cole Baer, Miguel Cabo, Brady Channell, Gage Ducatte, Schuylar Gratto, Alex Knapp, Brian Menia, Alex Proper, Kainan Provost, and Jared Smith

Beauharnois, Duprey best in time trial
POINT AU ROCHE — Bruce Beauharnois of Placid Planet Cycling Team (PPCT) placed first in the 10 mile-event posting a time of 21:45, followed by Erik Bollt 22:30 and Scott Woodward (PPCT) 23:00. Mary Duprey (PPCT) was the first female rider with a time of 25:26 followed by Alicia Chase (PPCT) with a time of 29:40.

Jay Ruff was the sole rider in the 25-mile event posting a time of 1:03:17.

17 cyclists participated in the sixth event of the season under near ideal conditions. Several riders turned in personal bests. The 5-, 10- and 25-mile bicycle time trials will continue throughout the summer every Wednesday night at the Point au Roche Fire Station. The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign-up starts around 5:30 p.m. with the first rider going out at 6. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30-5:45.
