ITHACA — McQuaid Jesuit's Dominic Bozzelli repeated as NYSPHSAA Golf Champion Monday at Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University, carding a second-day 69 following Sunday's 71. Bozzelli finished five strokes ahead of Penfieldd's Yarik Merkulov.
Ethan Votraw of Plattsburgh High was the top finisher for Section VII, shooting rounds of 79 and 82 in a 39th-place tie.
Northeastern Clinton's Cody O'Brien followed his Section VII championship with a 60th-place 84-83-167. Saranac Lake's Pat McHugh shot a 90-80-170 for 66th place and teammate Michael Phelan carded a second-day 88 after Sunday's 85 for 72nd.
Luke Short and Alex Pierce of Plattsburgh tied for 78th with two-day 175s, while teammate Jordan Conroy shot an 83 on the second day to finish 81st with a total of 176.
Connor Jubert of NCCS finished 86th with a 91-86-177 and AuSable Valley's John Hickey placed 97th with a 95-93-188.
Zach Meade of Tupper Lake placed 53rd with an 84-81-165.
Section V won the Sectional Championship for the second year in a row and third overall with a two-day total of 1033, which includes the best seven-out-of-nine scores from both rounds. They finished 22 shots ahead of second place Section I and 73 shots ahead of third place Section IV.
