PERU — Peru wrestling standout Arik Robinson completed the Triple Crown at this past weekend's New York State Greco-Roman and Freestyle Championships, held at Broome Community College.
Robinson, competing in the Cadet Division (ages 14-16) took first place at 112 pounds in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle events, while finishing with a 6-0 record in both to go unbeaten in 12 matches.
"Arik was chosen as the Outstanding Wrestler in the Greco-Roman class," said Peru varsity co-head coach Mike Hogan. "He is the first wrestler from the area to complete the Triple Crown — winning a state championship on a high school level and then winning both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle."
Four other area wrestlers also took part.
Patrick Hogan, competing at 130 pounds in the Junior Division (ages 16-18) finished the tournament with a combined 9-3 record. He placed second in the Greco-Roman and fourth in the Freestyle.
Ryan Guynup, wrestling in the Cadet Division at 140 pounds, also had a combined 9-3 record while finishing second in the Greco-Roman and fifth in the Freestyle.
Jacob Goddeau, competing in the Cadet Division's 105-pound class, went 4-3 and took third in the Greco-Roman and fifth in the Freestyle.
Alex Pugh did not place while wrestling at 119 pounds in the Cadet Division.
"It was good competition," Hogan said. "The top three in each event qualify for the National Championships. Our wrestlers had to beat some tough kids."
